<h2>U.S. Open: Fabio Fognini Smashing Victory over Rafael Nadal</h2>

Rafael Nadal is popularly known for his sly tennis skills and his agile striking ability. He has set the record myriads of times in the history of Tennis. He keeps on reeling high and setting records at an enormous rate but his dreams smithereens when 32nd-seeded Fabio Fognini’s blow beat Rafael Nadal’s striking power in the third round of the U.S. Open on Friday night by 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. Earlier, He lost in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and the French Open, then the second round at Wimbledon.

Flushing Meadows is the favorite field for Nadal; out of his 14 major titles he has won two titles at Flushing Meadows. Rafael Nadal had a great beginning and was leading the match by defeating Fabio the first two sets. But he couldn’t sustain it. On the other hand, Fabio Fognini had nothing to lose and played some brilliant and exceptionally difficult shot which made Nadal incredulous and flummoxed. The swashbuckling fifth set was filled with excitement and Fabio Fognini took the lead of 5-4, and then held to end it.

Nadal had won 22 of his last 23 U.S. Open matches, winning titles in 2010 and 2013, and reaching the final in 2011. He missed the tournament because of health issues in 2012 and last year. Fabio Fognini has set the record at Flushing Meadows of being the second Italian man to get that far at the U.S. Open. Earlier it was Davide Sanguinetti.
