Asian equities kicked off the week with sharp losses as fears over emerging markets continued to spook investors. China’s Shanghai Composite shed 0.88 percent or 18.09 points at 2,036.31.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng plunged 2.32 percent or 521.73 points at 21,928.33. Japan’s Nikkei tumbled 2.70 percent or 415.03 points at 14,976.53.

Singapore’s Straits Times declined 1.52 percent or 46.64 points at 3,029.35. South Korea’s Seoul Composite fell 1.68 percent or 32.55 points at 1,908.01. Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted slipped 1.44 percent or 123.90 points at 8,474.41.

Asian equity markets stabilised on Tuesday following two straight sessions of sharp losses but caution prevailed ahead of a Federal Reserve meeting and turmoil in emerging markets.

China%u2019s Shanghai Composite rose 0.25 percent or 5.16 points at 2,038.46. Hong Kong%u2019s Hang Seng was down 0.10 percent or 22.82 points at 21,953.28.

Japan%u2019s Nikkei gained 0.22 percent or 33.01 points at 15,038.74. Singapore%u2019s Straits Times was flat at 3,039.74 while South Korea%u2019s Seoul Composite was up 0.15 percent or 2.89 points at 1,913.23. Taiwan Weighted is shut today.

Asian equity markets rebounded on Wednesday after an aggressive rate hike from the Turkish central bank soothed worries over volatility in emerging markets.

China%u2019s Shanghai Composite rose 0.41 percent or 8.44 points at 2,046.96 and Hong Kong%u2019s Hang Seng gained 0.84 percent or 185.10 points at 22,145.74.

Japan%u2019s Nikkei jumped 1.74 percent or 260.14 points at 15,240.30 and South Korea%u2019s Seoul Composite added 0.63 percent or 12.05 points at 1,928.98. However, Singapore%u2019s Straits Times was down 0.20 percent or 6.23 points at 3,056.18. Taiwan%u2019s Taiwan Weighted is shut today.
