Another question.........................

2) If a > 0, b > 0 , then , the relation between l a - b l and l b - a l is :-

1. l a - b l < l b - a l
2. l a - b l > l b - a l
3. l a - b l = l b - a l
4. can not be determined.

Plz give solution for these 2 questions...!

1] NUMBERS AND VBODMAS RULE :-

1) If l a l > l b l and a < b, then which of the following is true?

1. a > 0 2. b > 0 3. a < o 4. b > l a l

The correct answer is 'c' a<0

There might be direct method to solve, but i followed this approach.

Since we've |a|>|b| and a<b, it is obvious that the values of a and b should be -ve

Now assume that a= -2 and b =-1 (should satisfy the conditions)

So immediately, our case is solved and we get the answer. Take, any other value, the conditions wont be met. Moreover the magnitude of a should be more than b. Hence (a,b) can't even have (1,0) value too.

I hope this is enough. Please let me know if there are any errors.

The easiest method to solve this one is by giving values to a and b

The correct answer is C

4) A positive number 'n', when divided by 88 gives the remainder 8. What will be the remainder when, this number is divided by 11?

a. 3
b. 4
c. 1
d. 8
The no. can be formed from the 1st statement. = 88k + 8

Now, we have to find the reminder of no./11

i.e. (88k+8)/11

The resultant reminder shall be the sum of the reminder of the two terms. Hence, the first term's reminder is 0 and the 2nd term, give the reminder as 8

PRIME AND COMPOSITE NUMBERS

5) If a and b are two prime numbers, then, a + b can take value :-
1. 78
2. 7
3. 23

Options :
a} 1 Only
b} 2 Only
3} 1 & 2 only
4} 2 & 3 Only
I'm not sure about the direct approach. To solve this, i see the options, hence, i first take 7 = 2+5 is a sum of 2 prime numbers. So, i check whether 78 is possible or not....

2+76 NO
3+75 NO
5+73 YES

So the option should be (3)

One suggestion:

I think it would be better to prepare by starting one topic and posting all the possible types of that particular topic. Since everyone is starting preparation now, so such a methodology will ensure that one topic is thoroughly discussed. It is also better, that one thread is maintained for one topic... eg. One thread on numbers, one thread on Time and Distance.

thanx for giving suggestion, gaurav !
so, likewise, this thread is of numbers, ok...
so my next questions r :- [Q.6 th Q.10]

6) If A, B and C are complex numbers, where A = 3 + 2i, B = 6 – 4i and C = 2 + 6i.
Find the value of b if D is of the form a – bi and D = A + B + C.

a} 0
b}-4
c} 4
d} -1

a} 10 gm
b} 6 gm
c) 5 gm
d} 2 gm

8) In a state 30% of the population are women, 60 % are men and the rest are children. 40 % of the children are enjoying good health, while the rest i.e. 120 are suffering from Thalassemia. Find the total population of that state.

a} 1000
b} 2000
c} 2635
d} 2500

a} 102
b} 78
c} 88
d} 98

10) Mr. X forgets his telephone number. All he remembers is that the 1st digit of the number is an even prime number and the rest of the number is square value of a number having its digits as the first four natural numbers in the regular order. What is his telephone number?

a} 31522756
2} 21567432

if population is x. Then 10% of x are children = 0.1 x

60% of 0.1 x = 120

x=2000

Answer is 78 kgs... assuming we take 11 player team.

The avg weight is decreased by 2 kg. So, the person should be lighter by total no. of players X 2

Hence the weight must be 100-22 = 78 kgs

Answer is 4....

2-4+6

answer :
A + B+ C = 3 + 2i + 6 - 4i + 2 + 6i
= 3 + 6 + 2 + (2 - 4i + 6i)
= 11 + 4i
= 11 - (-4i)

Therefore, b = -4.
Hence, 2
