Centralization and Decentralization

  • Centralization refers to the degree to which decision making is concentrated at a single point in the organisation.

  • Decentralization is the process of delegating power from higher to lower levels of within the organisation.


Formalization
  • Degree to which jobs in an organisation are standardized.

  • Highly Standardized job – no freedom as to what to do, when to do and how it is to be done.

  • Organisational rules, regulations , defined processes and procedures.

  • Formalization differs from organisation to organisation and also within organisation.


Line Managers
  • People who occupy line positions have decision-making power.

  • Line positions consist of Managing Director, President, Vice President .

  • Generally Line Managers are Old.

  • Experienced.

  • Dedicated and Loyal to the organisation.


Staff Managers
  • They provide advice and make recommendations.

  • Examples- Legal Experts, Financial Advisors.

  • Generally Staff Managers are


Younger.

Educated.

Dedicated to their field of Specialization
