Stakeholders:

  • The organization needs to take some responsibility of the stakeholders.

  • The stakeholders of an organization are basically the customers, suppliers, employees and shareholders.

There are two types of stakeholders -

primary and secondary.

  • Primary stakeholders are those whose concerns the organization must address to ensure its own survival.

  • Secondary are also important because they can take actions that can damage but nit destroy the organizations.

  • Public leaders, political action groups and the media are secondary stakeholders for many organizations.

Stakeholder concerns:

Customers: -

  • Many organizations say that they put the concerns of their customers or clients first.

  • Managers have introduced TQM programs for both external customers and suppliers and internal customers and in other departments who purchase or supply products or services.

  • Some customers make a special point of purchasing products and services only from companies with outstanding reputation for ethical conduct and social responsibility.

  • This is one way to express their personal ethical perspectives. Others go public when they have concerns about unethical practices.

  • For awhile, CEO’S like Nike’s Phil Knight shrugged off the protests. But college students made it clear that they did not want their university sports teams to wear apparel made in sweatshops.

  • They demanded that these companies disclose the names and addresses of their factories.

  • Knight finally agreed to these demands, and other CEO’s then followed,

  • eventually, several of the companies affected began working towards a longer-term solution, which involves independent monitoring and reporting to factory conditions.
