Application of Quality Circles

Quality circles (QCs) are used by business, industry, and health care institutions to increase productivity, decrease costs, and improve the quality of products and services. Quality circles are defined as small groups of people from same or similar work units who voluntarily meet to identify and analyze problems and recommend solutions regarding their work-related problems to management.
Quality circles are based on the concept of participative management versus the traditional centralized, hierarchical management style of most health care institutions. The use of QCs as problem-solving tools is based on the assumption that employees who do the work know their jobs best and, therefore, can see ways of upgrading and improving their work environments.
