What is a news magazine?

A news magazine is usually a weekly magazine featuring articles or segments on current events. News magazines generally go more in-depth into stories than newspapers or television news, trying to give the reader an understanding of the context surrounding important events, rather than just the facts.
Eg: There are magazines like India Today, Frontline, The Week and The Outlook in India which perform these functions.

Though the editorial policies of these newspapers might be different, their functions of analysis and in-depth reviews remain unchanged.

There are also television news magazines:

Television news magazines provide several stories not seen on regular newscasts, including celebrity profiles, coverage of big businesses, hidden camera techniques, better international coverage, exposing and correcting injustices, in-depth coverage of a headline story, and hot topic interviews.
Eg: News channels these days have started telecasting shows like “We the people” which debates over current affairs while including a fair share of public opinion and expert opinion.

The audience for these magazines is very wide as those who read newspapers would also like to know more about the context of the news. It is difficult to classify the target audience into any particular demographics for this niche.

Time Magazine will help you the most. Here's an exercise you might want to try. Read an article that interests you. Then put the magazine away and practice writing an article of your own using the information you just read. Then read the article again, put it away, and rewrite your article. It doesn't have to be original; in fact, if you can remember the wording of whole sections of the original, feel free to use them.
