How The Mighty Are Fallen…

Unfortunately, I could not come up with a better heading for the introduction to such a compelling case. With this case, the United States Government has been able to ‘control’ (so they claim) the ‘big, bad boy’ of the industry.

Yes, William Gates Jr. (otherwise known as ‘Bill Gates’ or ‘The Richest Man In The Universe’) had become a ‘Gilded Victim’ – loads of money, one of the biggest corporations in America; so what is the PROBLEM? The problem, dear friends (as author Ken Auletta of WORLD WAR 3.0 fame puts it), was that an 800-pound gorilla (the US government), was telling him, just like nagging parents how to use the money he had, and not to show off by trying to snuff out even a semblance of competition – in other words, ‘PLAY FAIR AND SQUARE’. In business terminology, that would mean being ethical, anti-monopolistic and pro-competitive.

But poor Bill Gates didn’t think what he was doing was wrong – he thought computing for the consumer would become easier if he did the things he was doing (that will be revealed later in the case). The Honourable US Government, though, perceived them as an evil corporation, trying to gain a monopolistic hold on the market.
