Types of tobacco

There are seven major categories of tobacco, viz

Flue cured Virginia tobacco (FCV)

Burley

Oriental

Bark flue cured

Sun cured

Light flue cured cigar

Dark flue cured

Flue cured virginia tobacco is mainly used for manufacture of cigarettes.

Light air cured tobacco is used in the manufacture of bidis.


Unmanufactured tobacco is also consumed in India, for chewing purpose.



World tobacco production

Asia and America, together account for 75% of world's production of tobacco. China, USA and India are the three leading producing nations in the world. Other major tobacco producing countries are Brazil, USSR, Turkey, Italy, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, Bulgaria and Japan.


In the last 30 years, global area under crop has hovered around 4.5m hectares. However, production has risen from 4.5mn ton in 1960's to 7.8mn ton in the 90's.


Major players in world market are USA, Brazil. India has the same advantages as Brazil ie skilled labour, low production cost, good infrastructure in terms of power, technology etc.

There are various forms of tobacco like cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, pipes, cigars, clove cigarettes, bidis, hookah, e-cigarettes. Guys if you want to learn more about tobacco then you have to check my presentation which will explain you all forms of tobacco in more details. Well i think tobacco in any form is not good for health and cause major diseases like cancer.
