One of the career options that have been gaining importance in the wake of revolution in the field of technology is translation jobs. These days, linguistics abilities are being appreciated more than ever in the present shrinking world. The best thing about translation jobs is that it can either be taken as full-time job or it can even be taken as part-time job. The main skills required for succeeding, as a translator is attention to detail and patience.


Most of us view translation as an activity of word-by-word translation of text from one language to another, however, the fact is that it involves moving the soul of a text into a different body. The best way to improve the translation skills is to view the translation work done by other translator. This can offer the candidate with an idea of the level of creativity needed while executing the work in a professional manner. However, it should be remembered that like any other career, a career in translation will also take some time completely learn the technique.

The first few years in the career in translation should be spent learning the nuances of the craft. In the present internet world, many companies are spreading their tentacles outside the home markets and therefore these companies are in demand of translators for handling their external communication requirements in foreign markets.

First step towards a career in Translation:

If you are a candidate, who is currently studying and is interested in pursuing a career in translation, it is better to start early and in the first instant, you will have to identify the language that interest you. It is better to learn that language of your interest when you are doing your degree or higher secondary course. once you have decided the language, it is better to explore, whether any of the institutions in your area offer courses on the language. For instance, you can go for Delhi University, which offers a list of international languages like Arabic, German, French, etc….

Types of Translation jobs:

As in the type of writing, there are a number of subdivisions in translation and experience in this field can be an invaluable asset for finding jobs.

What is the second step?

Once you have decided a particular language, the second step would be go for higher education in that language called as language course. Translators are being hired by Multinational companies, travel agencies, hotels, etc….and depending upon the aptitude, candidates should chose the perfectly suitable areas in which they can specialize. For instance, if a person is a technology freak, he can look for jobs in software companies as technical translator.

Government jobs in the field of translation:

Most of the Government Ministries in India look for junior and senior translators and the opportunities are endless in government organizations. When it comes to government jobs, candidates with computer skills along with translation skills can gain more weightage as compared to candidates without computer knowledge. This is because most of the government document are computerized these days with the increasing use of computers in Government organizations.

As mentioned earlier, many government organizations frequently recruit candidates for translation position and here are the names of government organizations that recently recruited candidates for the position of translators and related positions

• Translation Assistant – Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited

• Hindi Translator – Faridabad Government of India Press

Translation is a profession with wide scope in the present world of computers and internet. This is because most companies look for creating a website for their organization in English and in Local language and therefore for translation of content from one language to another, they look for suitable translation.
