Eastern & Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI)

The Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) is a Pan African Regional Management Development Centre. It is a service and market-oriented institution offering high level specialized management training and development programme, consultancy and action-oriented management research services. ESAMI’s target clients are government, NGOs, parastatals, private sector and national training institutions in the Eastern and Southern African region.

Increasingly, ESAMI continues to attract clients from West Africa especially Ghana, Nigeria, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Cameroon. Participants from Asia, notably Bangladesh, India and Pakistan have also patronised our programmes. ESAMI is a leader in the industry in Sub-Saharan Africa.

In may, 1997 the UN Economic Commission for Africa officially designated ESAMI as ‘The African Centre of Excellence in Management Development". With this recognition and enhanced mandate, fresh challenges were posed to the Institute. To meet Africa’s management challenge ESAMI continues to provide high quality, client centered management training, consultancy and research for clients from all over Africa.

In may, 1997 the UN Economic Commission for Africa officially designated ESAMI as 'The African Centre of Excellence in Management Development". With this recognition and enhanced mandate, fresh challenges were posed to the Institute. To meet Africa's management challenge ESAMI continues to provide high quality, client centered management training, consultancy and research for clients from all over Africa.

Since its establishment in 1980, ESAMI's performance record in all the three areas (training, consultancy and research) has expanded to meet the needs of the institutions served in the region. For example, to date, over 30,000 middle and top level personnel in the government, parastatal, NGOs and private sector organisations have attended management development programmes offered by the Institute. In addition, these managers/executives have been provided with opportunities to widen their horizons, improve executive skills and to understand management as a process of balanced judgement. The aim has always been to keep African Managers up-to-date with modern management thinking and at the same time enable them to take stock and examine their managerial or administrative responsibilities in the context of today's dynamic environment.

The fact that every year, ESAMI attracts more participants attests to the quality and uniqueness of its product offerings. Its training programmes are research-based and usually use computer-aided training techniques. In addition, these programmes are directly relevant to the African environment and are offered by indigenous, highly qualified professional staff with broad functional diversity, all of whom have distinguished themselves in government, industry or academic institutions. Thus, these programmes are practical in orientation and address identified needs and priorities of African countries in the quest for development.

Executive MBA

Introduction

ESAMI MBA programme draws on the unique experiences that the Institute has acquired in management training, research and consulting in Africa. These experiences have made it possible for ESAMI to offer an executive MBA programme that enables graduating executives have the following qualities:

§ Developed global mindset which allows understanding of international management issues with a regional and local focus;

§ Ability to think critically, strategically and independently;

§ Enhanced quest for practical innovations and creativity in business management;

§ Ability to manage diversity;

§ Ability to recognise change and / or initiate change, pro-actively so as to maintain a competitive edge;

§ Ability in entrepreneurship and spearheading innovation.

Give current and expected environmental economic, social and political realities, the programme emphasis are to create innovation, creativity, analytical and visionary skills in managers.

Today’s Executives require a comprehensive stock of knowledge and skills that are related to their work situation and adaptable to change in their wider and immediate local environmental. Rapid changes in the world’s socio-economic and political structures are propelling organizations towards the search for a competitive edge away from the “crowd”, in order to penetrate the global market, grow and sustain own market share.

Such competitive edge type of knowledge and skills are essential for all visionary executives and managers of the twenty-first century.

Since its introduction six years ago, the programme has drawn a lot of interest and demand from clients in the sub-region. This made us increase number of venues to take it to places closer and convenient to the students.

Our future strategic focus is to enhance quality of the programme and its delivery; and to ensure maximum logistical and institutional support.

It is our commitment to respond more proactively to our clients needs. I invite all of our esteem customers to take advantage of this unique programme.
