Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) · Handelshögskolan i Stockholm
One of Europe's Leading Business Schools
For nearly one hundred years the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) has trained individuals for leading positions in business and public administration. To name but a few examples of our alumni, Ruben Rausing - the founder of Tetra Pak, and Assar Gabrielsson – the co-founder of Volvo, were both members of the School’s first graduating classes.
A Broad Offering of Educational Programs
In addition to the full-time MBA program, SSE offers a Master of Science (MSc) program that is top-ranked in Europe with an enrolment of about 1800 students, an Executive MBA program that is ranked number one in the Nordic region, an extensive array of executive education programs, Executive MBA programs in Russia and Riga, and a sixty year old PhD program with more than 200 PhD candidates. Of note is that SSE is the first educational institution in Sweden to receive accreditation by EQUIS, the European Quality Improvement System, signifying that our teaching and research in all fields have been found to meet the most rigorous international criteria.
Nobel Laureates and Internationally Renowned Research
Not only does the School comprise the more traditional departments of Management and Organization, Accounting and Business Law, Marketing and Strategy, Economics, Finance, and Economic Statistics and Decision Support, but it is also home to a number of research institutes, such as the Economic Research Institute, the Institute of International Business, and the Center for Advanced Studies in Leadership. Today there are around 400 people active in academic research and education at SSE, and the faculty generates around 400 publications every year. As a hallmark of quality, we like to point to the Nobel Laureate Bertil Ohlin, the SSE Professor of Economics who received the Nobel Prize in Economics. And in keeping with tradition, the Nobel Laureates in Economics visit SSE each year to talk about their research with students.
True to its international research focus, SSE has been a pioneer in internationalizing education and has founded sister schools in Riga, Latvia and St. Petersburg, Russia. Faculty exchanges and joint research with these schools create a climate that is particularly valuable to students concerned with the Baltic region or who may be curious about transition economies.
An International Network of Prestigious Connections
Moreover, SSE boasts an impressive network of international and Swedish connections. More than 100 multinational and Swedish companies financially support the School as Corporate Partners. In addition, members of the School’s board include Erik Åsbrink, former Swedish Minister of Finance, and Jacob Wallenberg, Chairman of the Board of the Swedish holding company Investor, while SSE honorary doctors include King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Professor Michael Porter of Harvard Business School. And in keeping with tradition, the Nobel Laureates in Economics visit SSE each year to talk about their research with students.
