The Business School
Central Library
The University of Otago School of Business is committed to advancing research and practice, and to delivering internationally respected research-based teaching to our undergraduate, postgraduate and executive students.
The School of Business is AACSB & EQUIS accredited, and is a member of AAPBS, PACIBER, & PIM. The School of Business offers a range of programmes in business law, economics, finance, information science, management, marketing management, quantitative methods and tourism.
The Program
A pacesetter in New Zealand business education, the School of Business pioneered the first full-time MBA in the country in 1976 (a programme which has been internationally ranked by the Financial Times and Economist Intelligence Unit as well as other leading authorities on world-class MBAs).
The Otago MBA programme is both challenging and rewarding. You will be part of a very select group of highly-motivated, intelligent and mature managers drawn from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures, who work together in a supportive and collaborative environment. The small class size (25 maximum) ensures a large degree of personal mentoring and guidance from staff.
Building upon almost 30 years of excellence, we have spent considerable time refining the curriculum to meet the needs of global business in the 21st century. The MBA curriculum is, therefore, structured to provide a broad foundation across all aspects of the external business environment. This foundation is then built upon through courses in the functional areas of management and in strategy, progressing from the external to the internal environment. Critical thinking and decision-making tools and techniques are developed and applied throughout.

Nature endowed Dunedin with coastal colonies of the shy Yellow- eyed penguins, and the world's only mainland breeding colony of the Royal Albatross. Dunedin's green belt and its many parks and gardens add to the breath and soul of the city. The 'kiwi' passion for water sports is met by Dunedin's long natural harbour - ideal for wind surfing, yachting, kayaking, canoeing , rowing and fishing. Surf's up all year round on Dunedin beaches, and St Clair beach is considered one of New Zealand's best for surfing. The climate is temperate, the rainfall moderate and the humidity low.
