ACCOMMODATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS :
The Accommodation Service provides help and support to all international students before and during their time at Blackpool and The Fylde College. There are two types of Accommodation for International Students

Host Family Accommodation

Self-Catering Accommodation

Host Family Accommodation:
It is the policy of Blackpool and The Fylde College that all International Students attending the English as a Foreign Language and International Foundation Degree courses are placed with a Host Family for their first term (September to December) which is a 3 month period.

Following the 3 months spent with the host family if the student wishes they may choose to remain with the host family or may choose to move into self-catering accommodation.

Your accommodation in Blackpool is one of the most important parts of your time here. A good home will help you settle into English culture and help to improve your language skills.

Our Host Families
Many British people like to ‘host’ foreign students because they really enjoy having someone from a different country living in their house and sharing part of their daily life.

A ‘host family’ does not always consist of two parents with children; people like this are often too busy to look after a student in addition to their own children.

For example, a young couple, or a couple whose children are away at school or grown up, often make excellent ‘hosts’, with more free time. Students should try to fit in with the everyday life of the household.

Blackpool and The Fylde College recommend that students who are new to the UK stay with a host family as they feel students benefit from this. It helps you to settle into the British way of life and encourages you to speak and develop your English Language skills.

Living With a Host Family
Family accommodation can vary enormously; it may be with one single person – the house owner (male or female), a retired couple or it may be a family that includes a husband, wife and children.

It may include pets and some homes only accommodate nonsmokers. The most important thing is that they spend time with you at meal times and provide a welcoming atmosphere.

You will be treated, as far as possible, as a member of the family, so it is important that you try and contribute as other family members do, i.e. if members of the family take turns to wash up, it’s a nice idea to volunteer to help also. As each family is different you will need to learn the family routine in order to be happy there.
