2013 MLK, Jr. Community Service Award Recipients


The awards recognize members of the greater Metro Atlanta community who “raise awareness of social injustice, speak on behalf of justice, celebrate diversity, and impel action in building a better future for all.” Representative Stacey Y. Abrams, the House Minority Leader for the Georgia General Assembly and State Representative for the 89th House District, served as the keynote speaker.



Awards are given in three categories. Congratulations to all the award recipients.



I.*** Programs for Children Honors individuals and organizations that invest their resources for the well-being of all children and confront the issues faced by children through effective programs and advocacy.

-*** Institute for the Study of Disadvantage and Disability
-*** Project Grad, Atlanta

II.*** Innovation for Change Honors individuals and organizations that apply innovation and creativity to address societal issues. These recipients excel in creating new ways to address persistent challenges in the lives of those marginalized.
-*** City of Refuge
-*** Furniture Bank of Atlanta
-*** Men Stopping Violence
-*** Bobby Dodd Institute

III.*** Service and AdvocacyHonors individuals and organizations that provide services and/or advocacy for the human rights of those marginalized because of poverty, race or ethnicity, national origin, gender, age, or any other reason.

-*** Feminist Women’s Health Center
-*** Georgia Justice Project
