Re: P.C. Chandra School of Business - February 9th, 2009

it is one of the best institutes in kolkata with modern teaching methodology, industry oriented faculties amd not like other b schools who run only on brand name with most of the faculties from hard core academic background with no industry experience, teaching a rigid mba course having no link with changing times or giving an autonomus pgdm degree havng no value if u cannot get in campus placements.whereas P.C.Chandra business school provides a dual mba+pgdbm ensuring benifits of both the fields, every one should atleast have a visit to there campus to belive them

Criminal Malpractices by Mr. Avishek Auddy, Director, P.C.Chandra School of Business, Kolkata (LC : 824) affiliated to PTU, Kolkata (Matrix Infosys)

To
The Dean,
Distance Education Program,
Punjab Technical University
Jalandhar.

24/709

Sir/Madam,

We are final year(end of 3rd sem) MBA students of P.C.Chandra School of Business, Kolkata (LC : 824) under Punjab Technical University(PTU). I would like to draw your attention to various malpractices committed by P.C.Chandra School of Business, Kolkata, under the direction of Mr. Avishek Auddy, Director, PCCSOB.

P.C.Chandra School of Business(PCCSOB) takes Rs 3.4 lakhs/- as course fees for its MBA course. But they don’t provide value for the money they take from students.

1) There aren’t sufficient faculties for the specialization papers of PTU syllabus for MBA. For e.g the same faculty takes classes for “Management Principles”, “Marketing”, “Business Environment” and “Operations”. Another single faculty takes classes for “Economics”, “Finance” and “IT”. Time and classes allotted for specialization papers of PTU MBA course like Finance and Marketing are minimal.

2) PCCSOB authorities have designed a syllabus (of PGPM course) of their own which is contradictory to & violates the PTU syllabus for MBA. Students are coerced and threatened to spend more time in hair dressing saloon (for skin & hair care) and around the dining table in canteen in the name of PERSONAL GROOMING!

Hardly any time is allocated for topics included in PTU Syllabus, though at the time of admission college authorities leverage the name of PTU, one of the renowned universities of India. Students have the feeling that they are attending some fashion designing course rather than MBA- Marketing/Finance/HR/IT!

Poor results of college students in PTU exams are a proof of this. Almost 80% of the students had to reappear in at least one subject in the last two PTU semester exams.

4) Just after admission first year students are subjected to harsh ragging by seniors, in violation of the laws of the land. Complaining to college authorities are in vain.

5) College is also involved in various fraudulent activities for arrangement of Educational Loans for students. College offers to arrange for counterfeit documents (address proof & salary slips) for students to avail educational loans from various banks. Mr. Avishek Auddy, Director takes personal initiative in these activities.

6) Though the course is of duration of two years, students are made to pay all the fees of Rs 3.4 lakhs/- within first year only.

7) Students are forced to conduct various promotional campaigns and street rallies for commercial publicity of P.C.Chandra Group, wasting their regular class hours. Director even issues show cause notice to students, who doesn’t participate.

8) College authorities have tied up with various third party companies, and students are made to spend around six months (out of two years) in those companies in the name of internship. College earns money by lending their students, where as students are paid absolute nothing. Few of the students were made to serve in menial jobs at the “Senator” hotel (under P.C.Chandra Group) and various jewelry shops of P.C.Chandra Group at Kolkata (herein lies the motive of making students & faculties spend more time on hair dressing than studies).

9) Security deposit of Rs 10,000/- is also not refunded on time.

Management and faculties always threaten students for not raising any issues outside college premises. Students are also told to consider and value their internal marks (25 marks out of 100) which the learning center (824) decides.

One student (PTU Roll No: 720824016) was maliciously given 10 out of 50 (pass marks: 20) in the 2nd semester internal paper “WORKSHOP ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY” by the college authority. He had to reappear in the paper RP-P7_I (WORKSHOP ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY).

He has passed and faired well in all the other external papers of 2nd semester. His only fault was he had questioned college authorities over their internship policies.

Another student (PTU Roll No: 820824028) has been maliciously given 9 out of 25 (pass marks: 10) in the “Principles & Practices of Management” paper (B0201) of MBA semester 1.

10) In many subjects like Accounting for Management(103), Human Resource Management(203) etc, no internal assessments were conducted by our Learning Center, but still we find, before PTU exams, strange marks have been allotted to us, in our internals.

11) Mr Subrata Banik, an employee of P.C.Chandra Group, is appointed by the LC for external viva-voce, & he has his own agenda for allocating marks, which are beyond any understanding of students.

Students and their parents have already lodged complaints against PCCSOB & its director to AICTE, AIMA, AIU, DEC, WBUT & WB Govt. and have received positive responses from all of them.

I would request you to kindly investigate the matter about the various malpractices of P.C.Chandra School of Business, Kolkata (LC : 824) and take necessary actions against Mr. Avishek Auddy, Director, PCCSOB, according to the law of the land.

I would also like you to please ensure that Punjab Technical University(PTU) syllabus and guidelines are adhered to, and more time is given for covering PTU syllabus, so that results of students at semester exams of PTU improve and students get due value for their time and money.

If necessary, stop any new admission at PCCSB(LC:824), to prevent further recurrence of such malpractices in future.

Yours sincerely,

MAHUA SWARNAKAR
