List of Courses in Central University of Kashmir
The Central University of Kashmir came into existence recently in the year 2009 and the former name of the university was Central University of Jammu & Kashmir. The university holds the pride of being one among the very few central universities in the country and it is offering only a few courses at present since the university is at its teething stage. The university is planning to introduce several courses in the future.
It offers several facilities to the students like jobs for students, scholarships/fellowships, financial aid, placement cell, career counseling cell. The university is presently operating from its transit campus in Srinagar and steps are being made to construct its own campus soon.
Objectives of the university:
The Central University of Kashmir was established with the following objectives:
• To establish connection with industries with a view to promote science and technology
• To take appropriate steps to promote innovations in learning-teaching process and inter-disciplinary research and studies
• To advance and disseminate knowledge by offering research and instructional facilities in any branch of education as the university deems to be fit
• To focus on improvement of economic and social conditions and welfare of people, their cultural, educational and intellectual development
• To train and educate manpower for the development of the country
• To make provisions for integrated courses in science & technology, social sciences and humanities
Courses offered:
Only few courses are presently offered by the Central University of Kashmir and those courses are:
Department of Information Technology:
• Masters of Science in Information Technology
In addition to this course, the university is also planning to introduce Integrated M. Phil-Ph. D course in Information Technology.
Department of Business Administration:
• Masters in Business Administration
In addition to this course, the university is also planning to introduce Integrated M. Phil-Ph. D course in Business Administration.
Department of English:
• Master of Arts English
In addition to this course, the university is also planning to introduce Integrated M. Phil-Ph. D course in English.
Other Courses:
Apart from the above-mentioned courses, the university is also offering other courses like:
• Integrated BA-LLB
• Master of Arts in Convergent Journalism
• Master of Arts/Science in Mathematics
• Master of Arts in Economics
At present, the different schools functioning under the university of Kashmir are school of engineering & technology, school of media studies, school of legal studies, school of business studies, school of physical and chemical sciences, school of social sciences and school of languages.
Apart from these schools, the university has earned approval for starting other schools like school of medical sciences, school of media sciences, school of environmental sciences, school of performing arts, school of life sciences and school of education. Admission of students to the different courses offered by the university is done based on the marks secured by the students in Central University Common Entrance Test jointly conducted by seven Central Universities located in different parts of the country.
