When 58-year-old Tom McKinley found himself without a job, the Minnesota resident knew his best option was to advance his skills while searching for employment, Bloomberg BusinessWeek reports. In order to do so, McKinely decided to enroll in a local mini master of business administration (MBA) program. These courses, which are offered at many schools across the country, allow individuals like McKinley to quickly advance their business knowledge without having to commit to two years of graduate school.

As these programs grow in popularity, many schools are adding mini MBA courses to their offerings. For example, the Florida Institute of Technology recently launched an online mini MBA program in healthcare management, according to a press release.

Students
Mini MBA programs can help students advance their skills in a relatively short period of time. who enroll in this new program will be exposed to many healthcare issues, including policies and finance. However, participants will also gain a broad business knowledge that can be applicable to a variety of industries outside of healthcare.

Individuals who enroll in this program take many of the same classes as graduate students, earn credits that can later be applied to a traditional MBA, and can complete the mini MBA course of study in as little as eight months.
