August 6th, 2011
With more and more students seeking a spot in the civil services in Gujarat, this year a record 4,600 students will take an entrance test on Sunday for Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA), a coaching institute for civil services examination.
SPIPA has been coaching aspirants for civil services exams since 1972. "This year the number of aspirants for the 72 seats was the highest compared to past years. Gujarati youths have become more aware about the career options in the civil services and so there has been an increase in the number of students taking the entrance exam every year," said J M Acharya, joint director SPIPA.
Besides the fact that the civil services were gaining popularity, the number of students clearing the exam was also increasing. This year six students from the state made it to the civil services. Students demand that SPIPA should increase its capacity to 250 students.
