PROF. JOHN MULLINS LAUNCHES HIS BOOK “GETTING TO PLAN B” AT FMS, DELHI -
3 Weeks Ago
The students of FMS, Delhi, here at South Campus, witnessed the launch of “Getting to Plan B”, a book by John Mullins and Randy Komisar, with Prof. John Mullins from London Business School gracing the occasion and taking the opportunity to share his insights on entrepreneurship and its importance. FMS was the first stop in Prof. Mullin’s 20 day visit to India, and the budding entrepreneurs at FMS saw their dreams come true when they got the opportunity to listen to Prof. Mullins, a man with great experience and expertise in the area of entrepreneurship, both as an academician and as the founder of ventures.
Prof. Mullins got down to business immediately after officially launching his book, and he had a case-study ready to share with the audience, and drive home his point about the importance of Plan Bs when starting something new. Plan As are well thought out and planned, but seldom to they work out like we want it to. This is the crux of his new book, and the way one adapts to conditions which might not have been predicted, decides the ability to succeed.
About the book:
The book deals with the implementation of business plans. Emphasis is laid on the fact that no matter how beautiful a plan might look on paper, there might be infinite uncertainties and roadblocks on its path to success as soon as it confronts the harsh corporate jungle out there.
The authors highlight that every entrepreneur, and for that matter, anyone intending to enter a new domain of business should also have an understanding of how to get to plan B, the next plan which takes care of the contingencies and oversights which might have been missed in the optimistic plan A.
The book will help entrepreneurs understand the points where the plan includes overly ambitious assumptions, and, perhaps more importantly, help them test and reconfigure those very same assumptions, to create a much sounder plan B.
About Prof. John Mullins
John W. Mullins is Associate Professor of Management Practice and Chair of the Entrepreneurship group at London Business School. He earned his MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Ph.D in marketing from the University of Minnesota.
An award-winning teacher, John brings to his teaching and research 20 years of executive experience in high-growth firms, including two ventures he founded, one of which he took public.
Since becoming a business school professor in 1992, John has published three books and more than 30 articles in a variety of outlets, including Harvard Business Review, the Journal of Business Venturing, and the Journal of Product Innovation Management. His research has won national and international awards from Marketing Science Institute, the American Marketing Association, and the Richard D. Irwin Foundation.
John is co-author of Marketing Management: A Strategic Decision Making Approach, 5th edition and Marketing Strategy: A Decision Focused Approach, 5th edition. His trade book, The New Business Road Test: What Entrepreneurs and Executives Should Do Before Writing a Business Plan (London: Prentice-Hall/FT 2003), is the definitive work on the assessment and shaping of market opportunities.
John has consulted with and done executive education on three continents for a variety of organisations both large and small, including Roche Diagnostics, Time Warner Communications, the Eastman Kodak Company, Pumpkin Ltd., The Musicland Group, Montgomery Watson, Inc., the International Planned Parenthood Federation, and others.

Hi,
All the placement reports of FMS (both Summer as well as Final Placements), of all the years can be found on the website of the Faculty of Management Studies.
The average domestic salary for accepted offers was INR 11.47 lakhs per annum for MBA and INR 11.15 lakhs per annum for MBA-MS.
The highest domestic package was INR 19 lakhs per annum offered by Microsoft India to a student of the MBA course.
Nearly half of the students (49%) in MBA and one third (34%) in MBA-MS opted for a career in Finance, a decrease of 3% and 12% respectively as compared to last year, rightfully reflecting the prevailing uncertainty in the financial sector.
The top recruiters of the process included Standard Chartered Bank, Citibank, Microsoft India, Hindustan Unilever Limited and TAS.
FMS managed to call several new recruiters this year which included firms as diverse as Barings PE, Wrigley’s, Larsen & Toubro Ltd. and E&Y Dubai.
A total of 31 new companies visited the campus from all the major domains. This included a good number of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), providing a shift in the trend over the past years.
FMS continued its legacy of unmatched placements in the Marketing Sector with several FMCGs like Britannia and Wrigley’s recruiting only at FMS.
