The sublime concept of offering the best quality business education was materialized when the Institute of Management in Kerala (IMK) was established in 1991, under the University of Kerala. Located in the pleasant and peaceful University Senate Campus Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram, IMK continues to be in the forefront, confidently pursuing its prime goal of disseminating quality contemporary professional business education. IMK is proud to own a class of excellent trained professionals who adorn top positions in various organisations. Sensing the requirements of the diverse and demanding business world, IMK refines and re-defines its course curriculum in keeping with the changes happening around. The University of Travancore was established on 1st November 1937 by a proclamation of Sri. Chithira Tirunal Balarama Varma, the Maharaja of Travancore. In 1957, the Kerala University Act was put into effect and the University of Travancore was renamed as University of Kerala. It is the sixteenth university to be established in India and the first in Kerala. The University today is one of the prestigious universities in the country, with 41 teaching and research departments and more than 150 affiliated colleges.

IMK (Courses Offered)

The ever-changing business world throws a multitude of challenges to those who view it seriously. Being an adequately trained professional with ample expertise is the only solution to face the situation with a smile. Constant unlearning and re-learning and continued learning is an ardent pursuit of the young aspiring minds at IMK.

Two-year MBA (full time)

Institute of Management in Kerala offers a full time Master of Business Administration programme. Spanning four semesters, the contemporary course curriculum encompasses the concepts and techniques of management, equipping the students to comprehend the environment fully and acquire analytical decision-making, inculcating a new outlook towards work. The syllabus emphasises self-development through personality development programmes like simulation exercises, role plays, case analysis and group works. These academic group activities boost the students' self-confidence, create better problem solvers and effect better communication. The students develop a holistic outlook towards life based on ethical values and social responsibilities.

Three-year MBA (evening programme)

The Institute conducts an MBA evening programme of six semesters. This course facilitates continued learning for the aspirants despite their hectic professional schedule. Classes are arranged between 5.30 pm and 8.30 pm on all working days. Eminent academicians and experienced professionals familiarize the students with the varied vistas of business administration. The eligible candidates for the course are carefully selected through an entrance test by the University of Kerala followed by group discussion and interview.


PhD in Management

The Institute facilitates PhD programmes in the various disciplines of Management. Candidates are selected through an entrance test by Selection is on the basis of an entrance exam conducted by the University of Kerala and an interview with the doctoral committee.

Events at IMK

MANIA

The students of IMK have a wider perspective about their mission as business administrators. They had organized MANIA'08 (Managers in Action) to showcase their managerial skills. In 2008, the Annual All India Management Meet was organized solely by the students of IMK. MANIA'08 was a three-day event in which around sixteen business schools in South India participated. Seminars, management games, cultural competitions and music shows made this event rich and memorable.

The entire show was managed by students. It was ultimate team work and the tremendous success of this unique show boosted the morale of the students and equipped them to face the career challenges ahead.

LUSTRE

The 2007-2009 batch of IMK started a one-day international management seminar LUSTRE in 2008. This programme is aimed to nurture the managerial abilities of the junior students with the help and guidance of the seniors. The entire show is the sole responsibility of the juniors. Future managers are carefully moulded to shoulder the various professional roles awaiting them.

LUSTRE'08 witnessed the presence of eminent speakers from around the globe like FMCG giants, financial institutions, Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage and the travel industry. It had a job fair also through which lots of qualified business professionals were placed in organizations in India and abroad.
