Australia captain Michael Clarke is to resign from one-day global cricket after Sunday's World Cup last against New Zealand, finishing a 12-year restricted overs vocation.

"I believe its the correct time for me and the Australian cricket group," the 33-year-old told journalists.

He said he settled on the choice 48 hours prior, having said a week ago he didn't think he would stop.

He has a long haul back issue and has battled with hamstring wounds.

Clarke has played 244 one-day internationals, scoring 7,907 runs with a most astounding score of 130.

"I inquired as to whether I thought I would be playing in the following World Cup and I don't think I will be," he said.
