The World Cup may begin from February 14 yet for the Indian sub-landmass, the competition will well and genuinely start a day after when shielding champions India face conventional opponents Pakistan in a Group B match at the Adelaide Oval.

1) India has won 50 out of 126 One-Day Internationals (ODI) against Pakistan (with 4 matches have No Result). Yet, they are yet to lose a single World Cup match against the arch-rivals. India has registered wins in all the 5 matches played at the World Cup so far – in 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2011.

2) Sachin Tendulkar has been a part of all the 5 World Cup matches played between India and Pakistan, and he win the Man of the Match award on all three occasions (1992, 2003 and 2011).

3) Venkatesh Prasad and Wahab Riaz are the only bowlers to have taken a 5-wicket haul in an India-Pakistan World Cup match. While Venkatesh Prasad bagged 5 for 27 at Manchester in 1999, Wahab Riaz achieved the feat at Mohali in 2011.

4) Younis Khan, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Misbah-ul-Haq and Wahab Riaz are the other players who have previously been part of India-Pakistan World Cup matches. While Younis Khan was a part of the 2003 and 2011 Pakistan sides, the rest featured only in the previous tournament.

5) Sachin Tendulkar has the record of scoring most runs in India-Pakistan ODIs. He has scored 2,474 runs in 66 innings, just ahead of Inzamam-ul-Haq who has 2,403 runs to his credit in 64 innings. Sachin Tendulkar also shares the record of the highest partnership for any wicket in an India-Pakistan clash with Navjot Singh Sidhu. The duo put on 231 runs for the second wicket at Sharjah in 1996. The Little Master also jointly holds the record of most catches in a single innings alongwith Sunil avaskar, Mohammad Azharuddin and Younis Khan – 4 each.
