Retention

UTC offers competitive salary and benefit packages that include health and life insurance, 401K plans, savings plans and much more. While full-time employees are eligible for all of these benefits, we also have options available for part-time workers. A few of the many benefits of employment at UTC are noted below:

Health Care:
Under a cafeteria plan known as UTC Choice, we offer medical and dental plans that offer both routine and necessary health care coverage. We also provide Health Care and Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts that allow you to pay eligible expenses with pre-tax dollars, as well as life insurance for you and your family, plus long term disability coverage.
In addition to our health insurance policies, we try and promote wellness on every level by offering employee fitness centers at certain locations, plus vision care discounts.
Purchased Vacation:
In addition to your paid vacation days, we offer you the opportunity to purchase an additional 1 to 5 days of vacation through our UTC Choice program. And we'll help ease the financial burden by spreading out the costs over the course of the year.
Part Time Benefits:
If you're not a full-time employee of UTC, but are working 20 to 35 hours per week, then you're eligible to enroll in the Part Time UTC Choice program. Essentially, this program gives you the benefits of the standard UTC Choice program available to full-time employees, with the exception of the Purchased Vacation option. If you're eligible for part time benefits, then you'll also be eligible for the Employee Scholar Program, Met Pay Personal Lines of Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance and Adoption Assistance.
Flexible Work Arrangements:
With the competing demands of work and family, keeping the old standard work hours of 9 AM to 5 PM has become increasingly difficult to manage for some. Personal matters sometimes require you to alter your schedule - UTC understands this. That's why we offer flexible work hours to eligible employees, at the discretion of their supervisor. You might work from 6 am until 3 pm, or you might start the day at 10 am and work until 6 pm. With our Flexible Work Arrangements, you can talk to your supervisor and find out whether a different work schedule might be good for you.
Savings Plan and Financial Advice:
At UTC, we think it's important to try and help you plan for your future-in the long term. In many locations, employees have the opportunity to save additional amounts for retirement through participation in the UTC Savings Plan. And to help you manage your fund more wisely, we provide free on-line financial advice.
Lifeworks Program:
LifeWorks is a comprehensive resource and referral program designed to give UTC employees practical solutions, information, and support with everyday issues. Through this free, confidential program, employees and their immediate families have 24/7 telephone and online access to professional consultants for help with a wide range of issues, including personal finance, parenting, elder care, education, health, work and career questions, emotional well-being, and more.

When scrutinizing a stock, retirees should look for:

Size. Most retirees would rather not take a flyer on unproven businesses. Bigger companies may lack their smaller counterparts' growth potential, but they do offer greater security.
Consistency. While many investors look for fast-growing companies, conservative investors want to see steady, consistent gains in revenue, free cash flow, and other key metrics. Slow growth won't make headlines, but it will help prevent the kind of ugly surprises that suddenly torpedo a stock's share price.
Stock stability. Conservative retirement investors prefer investments that move less dramatically than typical stocks, and they particularly want to avoid big losses. These investments will give up some gains during bull markets, but they won't fall as far or as fast during bear markets. Beta measures volatility, but we also want a track record of solid performance as well.
Valuation. No one can afford to pay too much for a stock, even if its prospects are good. Using normalized earnings multiples helps smooth out one-time effects, giving you a longer-term context.
Dividends. Most of all, retirees look for stocks that can provide income through dividends. Retirees want healthy payouts now and consistent dividend growth over time -- as long as it doesn't jeopardize the company's financial health.

All organisations or business enterprises of all sizes under all names are only to serve the needs of the people. All organisations are not only run by people, but also it is the people in it, i.e. more specifically employees, at various levels who determine the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization and thus their very survival especially in these modern times. This means that if organisations are to maintain their efficiency and effectiveness, it is the maintenance, i.e. retention, of the employees within the system. Thus efficiency, effectiveness and survival of any organization anywhere, whether big or small, depend on the recently rediscovered human capital. Thus acquisition of qualified human resources, developing them and maintaining them becomes all the more important. Employee turnover not only reduces the human capital in an organization but also organizational productivity besides incurring the costs of acquiring human resources for replacement and developing them. Hence increased emphasis is being laid on retention of human resources now a days especially with the onset of recent Revolutions such as Information Technology, which is labor intensive in nature, supported by increased globalization. The modern management literature advocates many strategies for employee retention from various dimensions such as organizational factors, compensation, rewards, job design and characteristics, work environment, employee relationship, etc. Human history shows that people remain in the fold of leader’s influence by their sheer behavior not only during their lifetime but also after their death! Legendary examples are Lord Buddha, Jesus Christ, Prophet Mohamed, Guru Nanak, Mahavir, Swamy Vivekanand, Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Mother Teresa, etc. Hence this paper attempts to present a few of the important employee retention strategies from the point of view of the hitherto ignored ‘leadership behavior’ from a more than 2000 year old Indian work, Thirukkural, a classical work on management, yet very relevant even to this day.
