Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) is a major American defense contractor and industrial corporation with core manufacturing concentrations in weapons and military and commercial electronics. It was previously involved in corporate and special-mission aircraft until early 2007. Raytheon is the world's largest producer of guided missiles.[2]
Established in 1922, the company reincorporated in 1928 and adopted its present name in 1959. The company has around 72,000 employees worldwide and annual revenues of approximately US$25 billion. More than 90% of Raytheon's revenues were obtained from military contracts and, as of 2007, it was the fifth-largest military contractor in the world,[3] and is the fourth largest defense contractor in the United States by revenue.
Raytheon Headquarters was moved from Lexington, Massachusetts to Waltham, Massachusetts on October 27, 2003.[4] The company was previously headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts from 1922–1928, Newton, Massachusetts from 1928–1941, Waltham from 1941–1961, Lexington from 1961–2003, and back to Waltham from 2003 onwards.

Pros
Raytheon company consists of innovative technology, very competent engineers, a reasonable flexible work schedule, and a good work/life balance. The benefits on the whole seem to be fairly comparable to others in the defense contractor industry in which they compete but I believe they could be better. Several of my former Raytheon colleagues have departed for better pay at other large defense contractors. I believe overall compensation could be improved in my opinion and would result in better employee retention. Aside from the slightly below average compensation, in my opinion, Raytheon still remains a good place to work and I would still recommend it as a good company for other engineers to work at.
Cons
Occasionally, feel like you get lost in the crowd because it is such a large company. No other complaints that come to mind.

aytheon Australia certified its latest R6s Expert, Chris Wrangle, at a Raytheon Australia R6s Board held recently in Canberra. Chris became the first to certify as a R6s Expert under a new training and certification model introduced by Raytheon Company during 2008. The new model involves a "Learning Journey", where a R6s Expert certifies against six core competencies and is expected to lead and deliver benefits to the company across a range of projects.

This is a significant change from the previous model where students qualified under one major project. Chris led and delivered significant business benefits across a number of projects including risk management, employee retention and the HR Performance Development System, revitalised R6s Specialist training and numerous other activities. Chris now becomes our eighth certified R6s Expert in Raytheon Australia.

"This is a wonderful achievement both for Chris and for Raytheon Australia," said Belinda Kilcullen, Raytheon Australia Leadership Team Champion for R6s. "It's great to see Raytheon Australia continue to expand its certified Expert alumni and to realise significant business benefits across the enterprise."

Raytheon’s Operation Phoenix arises from the extraordinary emphasis the company places on the success of U.S. warfighters. Our industry is dedicated to supporting the U.S. military in its battlespace and at home with a program that helps veterans, wounded warriors, transitioning military personnel and their spouses.

Raytheon has entry- and professional-level positions available. Qualifications depend on experience and educational backgrounds. Strong internal and external support systems and partnerships with government and local agencies help us respond quickly to the changing needs of veterans, wounded warriors, transitioning military personnel and their spouses.

We believe former members of the military provide a valuable resource to meet the needs of the 21st century workforce. We believe that achieving the American dream is possible for everyone, especially those who have served and sacrificed in the defense of our freedom. Our goal is to promote pathways to employment and economic self-sufficiency for these heroes and their families who are working to achieve this dream

Innovation, creativity and flexibility are important in order for Raytheon to be able to respond effectively to changing business needs. Raytheon also recognizes the importance of workplace flexibility for its employees. Raytheon supports a variety of flexible work arrangements including compressed work weeks, flextime, job sharing, reduced hours and telecommuting. The particular flexibility options will vary depending upon the type of work performed and the work location, but examples of some that are available include:
Every other Friday off (9/80) — an employee works 9 hours Monday through Friday of week A, 9 hours Monday through Wednesday of week B, 8 hours Thursday of week B and then gets Friday of week B off (works 80 hours over a two week period).
Every Friday afternoon off — an employee works 9 hours Monday through Thursday and 4 hours on Friday morning (works 40 hours each week).

Designed to offset the out-of-pocket costs associated with adopting a child. You can receive up to a maximum of $6,000 in adoption assistance benefits for each finalized adoption. This amount could be a taxable benefit depending upon financial guidelines as established by the federal government.

Transportation Benefit
Raytheon believes in good community relations and in modeling stewardship of the environment. Currently offered in most states, the Transportation Benefit provides savings on commuting expenses through pre-tax payroll deductions. Only Raytheon commuting expenses are eligible including mass transit costs, vanpool expenses and parking. WageWorks administers the benefit.

How the Plan Works:
Similar to Raytheon's other reimbursement accounts, the Transportation Benefit allows you to have before-tax deductions taken out of your paychecks to pay for eligible expenses associated with your commute to work. Unlike either Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts (DCRA), however, how benefits are paid depends upon what type of eligible expenses you have.
