DivX, Inc. (formerly DivXNetworks, Inc.), based in San Diego, California, now part of Sonic Solutions, a division of Rovi, was the corporation behind the MPEG-4 Part 2-based codec, DivX. The company's codec has been downloaded over 240 million times since January 2003. DivX, Inc.'s offerings have expanded beyond the codec to include software for viewing and authoring DivX-encoded video. DivX, Inc. also licenses its technologies to manufacturers of consumer electronics devices and components used in these devices and certifies that these products are able to properly handle DivX-encoded video.

DivX, Inc. licenses its technologies to manufacturers of consumer electronic devices. DivX, Inc. also licenses its technologies to manufacturers of integrated circuits designed to be used in consumer electronic devices. For example, on September 12, 2007, DivX, Inc. announced a licensing agreement with Qualcomm that allows the chip manufacturer to include DivX, Inc.'s technology in its video-enabled chipsets.[7]
In addition to licensing, DivX, Inc. also certifies devices that can encode and/or play-back videos using the company's codec according to DivX, Inc.'s standards. The company has certified DVD players, digital televisions, digital cameras, portable video players, and portable video recorders. DivX, Inc.'s partners have shipped over 100 million certified consumer electric devices, representing over 2500 product models.[8]
Partners include LG Electronics, Philips Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Electronics, Thomson, and Pentax.[8]
The licensing and certification agreements that DivX, Inc. strikes with its partners usually entitle DivX, Inc. to receive a per-unit royalty for every device shipped that incorporates DivX, Inc.'s technology and is certified by DivX, Inc. Approximately 75% of all royalties DivX, Inc. received are for products sold in countries outside of the United States,[4] as DivX-encoded video is more popular in certain regions outside of the United States than it is in the United States. Royalties resulting from licensing are approximately $1 to $2 per unit shipped.[9]
Prior to November 2007, DivX, Inc. also received revenue from Google by providing the option to download the Google Toolbar when downloading the DivX Player from the company's website. In November 2007, DivX, Inc.'s contract with Google expired, and the company started distributing a co-branded version of the Yahoo! Toolbar and a version of Internet Explorer 7 that is pre-configured with Yahoo! tools.[10] DivX Inc.'s financial reporting for the third quarter of 2008 indicated that the Yahoo! deal was proving to be more lucrative than the previous Google deal.[11] Soon after the company reported third quarter results, however, Yahoo! advised DivX, Inc. that it would cease making payments under the contract.[12] DivX, Inc. responded by suing Yahoo! in California Superior Court seeking damages and specific performance of the contract.[13] The company acknowledged, though, that the breach would materially affect its financial performance for 2008 and 2009. (In the first nine months of 2008, the Yahoo! deal accounted for 21% of DivX, Inc.'s revenue.)[11] DivX, Inc. and Yahoo! settled their dispute in August 2009. [14] Under the settlement, Yahoo! paid $9.5 million to DivX, Inc.[14] In March, 2009, DivX, Inc. entered into a new promotion and distribution agreement with Google.[14] Under the agreement DivX, Inc. will distribute Google products such as the Chrome browser and Google Toolbar along with its own products and will receive fees from Google for successful activations of these products.

DivX is known to create a balance between quality and file size with its highly efficient compression abilities. And because of that, it s one of the codecs used for ripping where audio and video are copied from a source to the PC hard disk for archiving and transcoding.

The commercial DivX competes with Microsoft's Video for Windows in WMV, Apple's QuickTime in the MOV and RealNetwork's Real Video in the RMM file formats. An open source version released by Xvid solutions in 2001 is the Xvid file format.

While DivX has long been renowned for its excellent video quality, its free and open source equivalent Xvid today offers comparable quality, also based on MPEG-4 Part 2 (MPEG-4 ASP). In a series of subjective quality tests at Doom9.org, the DivX codec has been successively beaten by Xvid every year since 2003. Confusion clarified

DivX are two different things from two different companies. One is DIVX created by Circuit City, a US electronics retail giant that attempted to market a DVD rental system that used special players and discs. And the other is the DivX multimedia codec trademarked and marketed by DivX, Inc. which is actually a reference to the failed Circuit City system.

A short history

DivX roots can be traced back to 1998 as a hacked version of Microsoft's MPEG4 version 3 which is inferior to the MPEG4 that we know today. It was a French hacker Jerome Rota who, rather than modify his video resume which could not play on the new Windows Media Player at that time, reverse-engineered the MPEG4 format together with a German Hacker Max Morice to come up with an MPEG4 format encapsulated in AVI instead of the ASF it originally had. It only took them a week. Between 1998 and 2002, the DVD hacking community had independent hackers enhance the format that later came to have the Divx with a smiley emoticon J attached as version 3.0.

In 2000, Rota was hired by Jorda Greenhall to form a company called DivXNetworks (later renamed to DivX, Inc.) based in the French Riviera. The association resulted in the OpenDivX codec a year later. Its source code was open to anyone and could be downloaded from the projectmayo.com website. The following year, the two left for San Diego and developed the OpenDivX software to become DivX version 4.0. Other developers took the Encore2 software to enhance the open source OpenDivX to arrive at the rival Xvid format.maintained by Xvid Solutions, Inc.
The DivX Company continued to enhance the DivX software that in 2002 has taken on the fifth version. By 2004, the features of the DivX format are as complete as we know it today. In May 2007, the Windows Vista version DivX 6.6 for the PC and the Mac was released.

The advantages and benefits of using DivX

DivX found itself at the heart of video piracy in the late 90s as its format became widely popular for ripping copyrighted DVD materials for bootleg replication and distribution. A number of generic DVD players as well as branded ones are claiming to play DivX materials

What's so appealing about the format is that it's free. Same with the software players you can use to play it with. It belongs to the open source community together with Xvid offering competitive if not better quality.

Ours is a fast moving society and just making it through a typical day can take everything you?ve got and leave you feeling drained and utterly exhausted. To keep going and moving onwards and upwards, you need to recharge yourself occasionally.

It’s not just your physical conditionthat’s important; but also the shape that your mind and your spirit are in. All three are important to allowing you to continue to develop yourself in your personal as well as your professional life.

Every one of us has energy centers called chakras throughout our bodies. Our chakras are responsible for ensuring the proper flow of energy throughout our bodies; they are also a link between your outer and inner selves.

Your chakras allow you to take your inner potential and manifest them as action as you work towards your goals. However, these internal energy centers can be depleted when you do not take the time to regularly clear and refresh them. The primary chakras are located along your spine, but there are a large number of secondary and tertiary chakras which are located all over your body. Each has its own particular function, corresponding to a different physiological and psychological aspect of your being. By working on your chakras, you can bring them into proper function and make them work together harmoniously.

Clearing chakras is a simple idea: you remove the negative energy which can block your chakras from working properly and allow positive energy to fill them.

You can make counterclockwise motions to rid your chakras of negative energy and clockwise movements to bring in positive energy.

After you are done clearing your chakras, You’ll feel relaxed and refreshed in body and mind.

It’s a good idea to educate yourself about the chakras; You’ll want to know which chakras are tied to which physiological functions and which character traits. This lets you focus on the chakras which need the most work first.
