PROGRESSIVE USE OF HINDI
In recognition of Banks performance in implementing Hindi language in area ‘c’ the Reserve Bank of India has awarded 1st prize to the Bank for the year 2002-03 under its Rajbhasha Sheidl scheme.



The bank has adopted new approaches to achieve various Hindi implementational targets envisaged in the annual implementation programme for the year 2003 – 04. In the newly designed Hindi Workshops such as Refresher Hindi Workshop and Advanced Hindi Workshop the emphasis was to enable the staff members to make use of the Language in all business dimensions. Such efforts of the Bank have resulted in achieving Hindi correspondence level of 86.05% in area ‘A’, 83.34% in area ‘B’ and 66.36% in area ‘C’ as on 31.3.04.



With a view to give due importance to Hindi in banking transactions, during the year the bank has installed Bilingual Data processing software in 22 branches coming under Ahmedabad, Delhi and Guwahati regions. Futher, during the same period special attention was bestowed to make use of bilingual word processing software at 356 branches / offices of the Bank so that Hindi language takes it prime position in correspondence and internal work. During this period the bank hosted its website in Hindi with a view to provide easy access to its functions and products worldwide.



During the year under report Desk training was introduced in all the Regional offices of the Bank to ensure usage of Hindi in various statements, reports, office notes etc.,



Retention of Hindi typing knowledge programme is yet another step taken by the bank which aims at increased usage of Hindi mainly in correspondence front. Apart from these steps, the bank has started its own Hindi stenography classes at Head Office during the year under report.



During the year 50 Hindi workshops were conducted in which 881 employees were trained.

183 branches were notified under rule 10 (4) of O.L.Rules 1976 during the year taking the total number of notified branches / offices to 478.



Out of 156 pages of Bank’s House Magazine Vijaya Vikas 60 pages were in Hindi and contained articles on Banking, Economics, Literature, Health etc.,

The Bank has also won prized in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Mangalore, New Delhi and RS Puram, Coimbatore Branch form their respective Town official Language implementation committee in recognition and appreciation of their efforts in implementing the official language.
