WHY COMMUNICATION (ENGLISH) IS SO IMPORTANT

India is a global country...
we have international companies here, and Indian companies in other countries and one common language with which we all can connect to people of other part of world is "English" , so we have one common language which we can understand and express our views with.
Its simple, easiest and indeed only way to communicate with people of other countries and to understand what they say.
To help them understand our thought of view, we need to communicate and its obvious to communicate you need a language. To understand there language you need to know that language!!!
in any organization they test your way of expressing your views and how well you can communicate and emphasizing how well you get on your point in the language they can understand.

If you actually want to find out the importance then just look at the communication medium. Forget about the language i.e. English. I hope you would agree to this fact that good communication skills are a must for the success. Whats the fun in just knowing when you can not even express and tell the world that you do now! And it actually kills the purpose when because of poor communication skills you happen to take more time to understand a little concept....think about those who take almost triple the time to explain and say a sentence in a try to explain something. Irritating it becomes..isn't it.

I would not say that knowing english is the ultimate thing. But atleast know some language. Why do you want to be respected? What for?
You can express well in hindi, you will get that respect. Just that the common platform is lost as english is taken to be the most commonly known and accepted language. But this no way reduces the image in society.

Why is it that people waste their time criticizing the language rather than learning it. Learning would not harm you..right?
And why is it that those who do not know the language are the ones who criticize on the advantages?

Talk about the current scenario. When you have people with various competencies, if you want to be noticed, you got to have that extra. And by not knowing these basic language aspects we are far away from that extra!!

I agree that communication is the life blood of business and at the individual level for success it is imperative to know english, but it would vary from one job description to the other. I would like to pick only two examples.

The stores department- internal to the copmany and the firm does not expect the storekeeper to be very fluent in English as long as he knows his job- which material is kept at what location on his system and accessiblity to that location and material needs to be smooth.

THe sales exectruvife doing a gield job away from the HO or BO when he moves into the market communicates but in the local language to hius dealers, suppliers, consumers etc not necessarily in English

....if we remember the basic communication process we talk about encoding and decoding by the sender and receiver respectively and the basis of a good communication is where the language used in encoding is one that is acceptable to the receiver and can be decoded in the same spirit and meaning as that of the sender.

....English is not necessary in communication but when we are talking about the corporate world then YES english is compulsory in communication as it is the language acceptable to the corporate world.

.....and regarding one with good communication skill wins despite having less knowledge, yes that is true as s/he can create better impression with their better communication skill than one with more knowledge and poor communication skill.
