This seems to be a cheezy topic.

Valentines day . Is it really about love and affection or is it just a over hyped over rated event propogated by companies for commercial motives.

Get those brains working.. Post your take on Valentines Day !!

To a certain extent yes it has been over-hyped....n sumhow v Indians (yung1s) hve adopted it like a festival......all thanx 2 d hype created by comps etc 4 their own interests.......2day 2 a certain extent if 1 doesnt tke out his GF on a valentines day den its like a huge crime!!!!!!
So sumhow v hve fallen in this trap laid out by d comps.....all v can do is stop giving it so much emphasis.

hey ppl...i am trying to make this thread a bit hot soo dont misunderstand me plzz..thnx
I hate valentines day donno why..not bcoz i am one of the social police or an SS supporter or something..not coz i am a loner or a frustrated lover or somethin.. I have a girlfrnd whom i love alot..I have frnds infact i have a huge circle of frnds..still Valentines day doesnt appeal to me..We dont f***in celebrate our INDEPENDENCE DAY but we never forget to wish our sweetheart a happy valentines day..thts not fair..we may forget to wish our wives or girlfrnds a happy diwali or a happy holi but we never forgt valentines day..does love today means showin ppl or showerin bouqets of flowers on them..does it mean the boys take fr grantd tht today is the day whn EVE TEASING IS LEGAL..i am not against foriegn values..i dont listen to hindi songs hardly ever, never wore a dhoti, never did puja or i hardly visit a temple..but i am an INDIAN..I have a rich tradition, culture which is soo rich in its values & its ethics..Why to fill the pockets of MNCs..by buying their gifts..GROW UP PPL come out of these things..SORRY who am I to suggest things to u who am I to tell wut is right wut is wrong for u... I just wanna say tht if ur SIS is gifted a red rose with a panty inside it as a gift frm her boyfrnd..it is not valentines day..its insult to ST.VALENTINE

Hi there guys,
To show ur luv towards sum1, one doesnt need valentines day. it can be shown any time and any place it simply doesnt require a day like VALENTINES. I too hav a bf and we dont need valentines day to show each other how much v luv each other or care for each other. this fest is just being too hyped by all the pple in india. I guess valentines day shud not celebrated as it just fills in the pockets of other pple doing b'ness these days. its time tat pple wake up and sstop celebrating such a thing which is got no meaning at all. Its just a fest which we hav adopted from the pple outside our country.
Shrinoy i guess ur also correct wid ur points wid the valentines day thing.
Also a good topic to discuss on.

Certainly...
there is no such thing as valentines day coz if we love some one no matter how much the distance or how much less time we get with each other... It is still a V-day every day... Me and My BF dont stay in same town but we still Love each other to death and wenever we meet each other is wen we celebrate our love... certainly there is no such thing as v-day coz if you really love someone you dont even need to speak words.... u understand w/o even a single word.... yes if u really wanna earn money trust me this is the bets time of the year;)
Well jokes apart on the whole if you love someone every moment of ur life is valentines day....
BTW if we also look at the raeson why it is celbrated then I guess we can be less biased on this topic... St. Valentines has been the hope for lovers for centuries now... and 2day this day of pure love is not only commercialised but also looked at with disrespect as if each and every couple is going to make out on this day.... Someone plz xplain these frantics that if they ban this day doesnt really matter to anyone... Love will still bloom and grow and succeed........... plz ask em to watch Mohobatien;) possibly den they'll understand its not bout V-day its about love... and no one can really stop u from luving and celebrating the love in a democracy

Lets give this topic a little twist .

Definately corporates are using v-day as a money makin biz.

But dont they use diwali, holi etc fests d same way ??

yes, its true that love doesnt need " a particular day " , but then so goes the saying for friendships day and mothers day and womens day.

Yep, companies are exploting the opportunity, but they will exploit every opportunity. Companies have to be profit oriented and opportunistic.

I am sure if a group starts a " World students holiday " day.. everyone will follow d crowd n start celebrating that too...

We need a reason to celebrate .. let the reason be love ..

Waiting for you guyz responses :) .

.

Very well said..... I agree with u completely........
companies shud exploit such events for their benefit and why not???
I dont see any flaw in that......
and not that they use only V-day as money making biz... Diwali infact is the period when all the companies show huge profits....... bcoz of the simple fact tht during diwali ppl spend generously on new stuff......

But absolutely nothin wrong in tht......

Well actually yup.. i recall seeing cpl dyz back in times now an interview goin on asian paints.. they wer revealin hw the company evolved they advertising werin they target they advertisement before on festivals coz it was just on fest seasons when major painting work was done... though today its all round the year no emphasize on any day .... Its da same way for card companies dey look V-day as i high end profit day.. V-day has been pressurising teens on getting gifts and cards lately coz its been a trend but well its not like a compulsion to any 1.. In marketing terms if i say its an Emotional Selling Proposition to hype more of da fest to make the youth celebrate love.. :third:

No harm in it is der????

valentine's day for me is just like other days. its not that we love people more on valentine's day and less on other days.

Hi,
I don't see any harm in celebrating Valentine's day.It just a feel good factor.Companies are going to do their business.Even there were few companies which were selling products during cricket world-cup.Is that a sin?Even during Deewali or Ramzam companies are going to give discounts.Thatz there business.

I don't stand by "commercialisation of Valentines' day".The companies are offering because ,average customer spending is increasing everyday because of the booming economy.

This is my view.

Valentines Day is surely a day for the markets u simply do not need any special day to show ur affection for someone u love however the commercialization and popularity of valentines day also does help make that a special day to break the ice in a relationship and speak your heart out. Thus in some cases helps true affection that is hidden to be shown.

i think the whole companies focus on commercialising this great day while some true lovers use it for showing loe some use it for reconciliation

it is a Commercialisation . but i don't say anyting to that because you can see a lot of lonely girls outside on valentines day and it is a good chance to meet someone :)

I think Valentines should not be celebrated. Love isn't a thing which is based on time. This depends on you, you can show love for someone anytime or never. Valentines is unnecessary. Those people who celebrate such a day with absolute joy are over-confident, insensitive, media brainwashed cows that do almost everything that they are told is "normal".
