hi neha, i will suggest you go for PHD only if you want to go into teaching line. otherwise if you spend that time in the field that will be much more beneficial to you. it all depends on your interests, so think deeply before taking any decision.

Dear Rajalakshmi,
I m from IIPM Mumbai (FW 07-09 batch) ... I know the status of all the IIPMs... thats why I said |touchwood|... because only IIPM Mumbai & Delhi still have placements.. Others do have but very few.. For some companies, IIPM Pune came to our campus for the placements..We had combined placements..

I said it is upto 8 lacs.. Only 'Kama Jewelery' gave 8 lacs package, Profile - Sales.. Matrix gave 6 lacs, profile - Sales (sim card)..
There are many companies with 4 lacs packages..
You said in IIPM Chennai, last year it was 3 lacs.. But in IIPM Mumbai, the minimum package what the company should give is 3.5 lacs till last yr.. This yr it is 3 lacs.. That means no company with less than 3 lac package can come to IIPM Mumbai..

Only 2 companies came for Finance... Both are hardcore Finance...
No company for HR...
Many companies for Marketing...
We have SS & FW batch combined placements wherein most of SS batch are placed before our placements.. All the above what I stated are for FW batch.. I think SS batch placements were much better than ours..

TCS & ICICI are giving 6-7 lacs CTC?? good yaar... because all the TATA companies are known for giving less packages.. If both these companies giving 6-7 lacs CTC then do grab it.. Dont miss this opportunity..

Even our placements are affected a lot because our biggest recruiters are no more... Lehman Brothers & Citi Bank were our largest recruiters (in terms of nos.) are no more.. It was very sad for us to hear from our seniors who lost their jobs on their 1st day itself.. They were placed in Lehman and on the 1st day itself they were told sorry but the company is closing down from tomorrow.. The next day they filed up the bankruptcy..

The topic is 'there is no job'... But I think there are many job vacancies.. The company also needs the people but the thing is that they are not hiring it because of the social reputation.. People say that when everyone are firing & you are hiring that means something is wrong in you..
Just wait for few more days and see the companies back in hiring processes..
For example, most of the Insurance cos & MF AMCs have fired people but without marketing people they cant survive in the market.. Once they hire marketing and they start performing, they will require Finance, Operation guys.. After that they require HR guys...
So, just wait for few more days and see how the hiring processes starts again..

I said wait for few more days that doesnt mean that you should literally wait.. If you get good companies with decent profile then do join it...

I feel sorry for you guys.Recession seriously is pinching all of us.I think the picture is not so rozy in IIPM but I'm seeing the ads in all newspapers Mr.Arindham is inviting ppl to take-up MBA in IIPM.Is it a ad gimmick or do you guys blame the economic climate for this placement scenario?

FYI:I'm an MBA aspirant working in a reputed IT company.

Re: WHAT AFTER MBA (there is no job)? - December 4th, 2008

i agree with you Teedee. its not that after doing MBA one will sit idle. MBA gives a lot of skills with which one is able to earn a decent livelihood at least. And when the recession gets over, all the opportunities will open again. Till then there is nothing wrong if we get less salary, or not a very good profile. But the experience that we will earn will really help in grabing the future opportunities.

I completely agree with Rajalakhsmi..
Dear Deepak, whatever you want to say - whether it is a marketing gimmick or a hype or whatever... Agreed to all but the underlying thing is that all the students gets good faculty, exposure and decent placements.. This yr placements are down due to bad economic environment but still there are placements going on and till date there had been 40 companies in IIPM Mumbai..

Deepak you might have seen the movie - Guru where there is a line that 'if people speak behind you that means you are progressing'... Same is the case with IIPM.. Everyone speaks bad about IIPM & Arindham but the fact is that they are progressing at a good rate..
Sometimes even we do say bad about IIPM but we cant forget the fact of good quality teaching n exposure and hence paying such a high fees is a worthwhile..

It is giving continuous ads because it want to grow.. And one more thing it is the highest profit making educational institute in India.. They make profits in crores of Rs. and why not when still students are joining IIPM paying fees as high as 8.25 lacs...

lets not deviate more from the topic.. Back to topic..
IIPM still has placements...

Re: WHAT AFTER MBA (there is no job)? - December 4th, 2008

hi there
marketing is my major and i may sound a bit optimistic buy FMCG sector is still very healthy its growing at 12-13% rate, insurance and pharma are other few sector still growing at a good rate so you dont have to worry much if ur from marketing but if ur from finance its a bit tough time for you. But try hard dont just depend on college.
