well this is a debatable topic going on for years and years

in india women are still considered as lower then men for eg if a guy wants to study abroad his parents allow but if its a girl they will think and may even deny etc.

According to a survey about participation of women in politics, India is ranked at 130, whereas Pakistan was ranked at 90 and Nepal at 75.. so u can imagine how backward India is as far as women in politics is concerned...

even in the other fields, there is a glass ceiling effect ...

India is backward in such issues. The main reason has to be illiteracy and more than that, the mentality as this has been followed since decades.

In my opinion, women are better then most men. Lets face it.

As a nation, we are of course over cruel inhuman practices such as sati and other logic less 'customs' that were traditionally followed in ancient India. The government is doing a good job working towards to develop of women in the country. Education upto the lower level at least is being provided free of cost to the girl child. There is awareness about female infanticide. Because women today are educated, they are capable of being financial independent. There are various NGOs and people constantly working towards the betterment of the less fortunate females who are not educated enough to be financially independent. There are shelter homes for widows, run away females, unwed mothers and various other organizations. Women are at par with their male counterparts in fields like hardware, taxi driving and other such jobs that would be unimaginable for a woman to be doing maybe before 10-20 years. And these are just examples. Look around, people are waking up to the fact that the fairer sex in our country is at par with their male counterparts, in a society that has been male dominated since forever - if not better.

In well educated areas or regions, women are given high priority in all aspects and their rights are respected. But in rural areas, women are still treated as slaves.

In India, we take a very strange stand.. At one hand, we claim that women are equal to men and on the other hand, we give them so many rights and concessions, that indirectly put up that they are inferior to men .. Strange INDIA ;)

Well its a hot debate topic but a true reality!
The female gender of our nation aren't given much respect compared to other nations. In our nation women are treated as lifeless machines when there is work and piece of trash otherwise.Norway, ranked No. 1, scored 82%. Finland came in second place with an estimated 82%, while Sweden posted a score of 81.4%. The U.S. has closed 72% of its gender gap, according to the study, while Yemen has closed 47%.

Other countries in the top 10 include Iceland (80%), New Zealand (79%), the Philippines (76%), Denmark (75%) and the Netherlands (74%). The U.K. ranked 13th (74%), while Canada ranked 31st (71%).Seeing level of importance and respect in above nations where category does our nation "INDIA" come???
Since we are taught a lot about respect for women, women empowerment in schools and colleges but i think that is only name sake. The sad reality we have in front of us .

Women in India are considered as home appliances and made for kitchen, but now the trends are changing women are getting into power, and walking hand in hand with men. The recent act which is passed by the government, related to factories act, where women can work in night from 9 pm to 7 am, Earlier only men were allow to work in factory during night. This is just the beginning and women in India, would be getting more dignity which they deserve as compared to any other nation.

The position of woman in our country in comparison to many other nations is poor. In our villages woman are still dominated by man. We need to change our perspective towards women must be change. But in comparison to the early days, today women are coming out and engaging in every industry. This is the good sign for the upcoming future of India.
