General Motors, the automaker in the United States, said on Wednesday it will close its operation at its plant in Halol, Gujarat.

This goes against the current, where the car manufacturers to move in search of productive activity in Gujarat. General Motors was one of the first cars to Gujarat in 1996 in force.

The company in the United States said it will invest $ 1 billion in its plant in Talegaon in Maharashtra. The investment is part of GM's plan to 5 billion dollars to invest for several years to develop a global family of Chevrolet vehicles with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (SAIC), the Chinese automaker, the state property is the main partner GM China.

GM has to protest in recent years, with the labor dispute at its plant in Halol in 2010, 2011 and 2014 were several times the labor dispute against poor working conditions and pay. The current capacity of the plant is about Halol 1,27,000 units per year.

It is expected that the closing of the plant will be completed by the end of 2016.

GM is also 10 new vehicles of domestic manufacture in India to start in the next five years, in an effort to double its market share in the country in 2020, Stefan Jacoby, head of GM International Operations, told a news conference.
