GD--5 --> Mobile a Boon or Bane?? - February 27th, 2006

Hi all...

This is the conversation of GD--> 5 held on 27th February, 2006..

I dont know why Sailesh Bhatia left in between?? So he wont be considered for the results...

Vyanketesh Rathi.. was confusing himself & I think to me too.. to a certain extent by taking both the sides.. I would like him to clarify the same..

Now the board is open to all... please post in your views & also take a decision for the timings & the options for the gd.. in the Feedback section @ request...

--->>>

Gd taker: Hello all..
Gd taker: first introduce yourself.. name., education, work ex

vyankatesh rathi: vyankatesh rathi, t.y.b.m.s, smt. c.h.m college ulhasnagar
deplex2002: I am Nagdev Nilesh doing my SYBMS from K.J. Somaiya college
Bhatia Sailesh: hi i m sailesh bhatia studing in TYBMS , i have exp in the field of Insurance & in a broking firm
Gaurav Mittal: hi room,,,,, i am gaurav....... passed out from cochin university in 2005.... did my Btch in ECE..... now prep for CAT ...

Gd taker: todays topic is -->> Mobile a Boon or Bane??
Gd taker: give u 20 mins..

deplex2002: I think so Mobile is a boon to some extent
vyankatesh rathi: anythng created by man can never be a boon
Bhatia Sailesh: frm my point of view mobile a boon coz its a easy & fast way of commu
vyankatesh rathi: sory can never be a bane
Bhatia Sailesh: any one can reach any person to any time
vyankatesh rathi: ya mobile has made the whole world a smaller place
Gaurav Mittal: Well..... the world is cluttering into a small and smaller place to live.... and hence the necessity for communicating is increasing day by day....... Hence it has become a part and parcel of our basic needs..... This point was highlighted by the news channel under a program called, roti, kapda, makan aur mobile...
Bhatia Sailesh: every new technology has some addvantages & disadvantages
vyankatesh rathi: its upto the human beings wht thy take it advantages or disadvantsges
Gaurav Mittal: With ever busy life, people need to stay in touch with others, every second, every minute and hence the need for mobiles is inevitable.....
deplex2002: During the Natural calamities Mobile is the only way to Communicate like 26th July in Mubai
deplex2002: Mumbai
vyankatesh rathi: but at those times mobile didnt wrk
deplex2002: they were working
Bhatia Sailesh: ya agree with deplex & gaurav
deplex2002: but it also has disadvantages like DPS Scandal
Bhatia Sailesh: but 1 thing is tht mobile has become so cheaper tht every person like to hav it coz of its advantages
vyankatesh rathi: if u r referring to camera enabled mobile. i dont thnk tht thy r disadvantage. if a person chooses it to wrk tht way wht can be done
Gaurav Mittal: Moreover, mobiles are a basic necessity when it comes to communicating at the time of natural calamities..... imagine u r stuck at a place which is out of the city and u need to get some petrol...... if u have a mobile, u can easily contact others...... Other than that it is a must for business organisations, and common people..... without which, survival can be very difficult
deplex2002: yes i agre with gaurav
Bhatia Sailesh: i also agree
vyankatesh rathi: so do we all agree tht mobiles are bane
vyankatesh rathi: boon
Bhatia Sailesh: i think thts y the reason the telecom sector is in boom
Gaurav Mittal: well, friends everything comes in a package of adv and disadv..... but we need to be careful to select what is gud.... The DPS scandal etc ca't be blamed on mobiles...... it is the person's mental illness which is the root cause for that
Bhatia Sailesh: ya tht s true
Bhatia Sailesh: i agree
vyankatesh rathi: ya i said tht point before
deplex2002: ok leve the Dps scandal
Bhatia Sailesh: take mms scandle
deplex2002: it affects ur health also
Bhatia Sailesh: it affects health if used in excess
Bhatia Sailesh: as every thing has its limit
deplex2002: Vibration in mobile affects a lot
Bhatia Sailesh: if u din in limit thts good
Gaurav Mittal: The best way to discuss a thing is to concentrate on its +ve aspects and thinking what solution could be worked on its -ve aspects...... eg using a mobile phone in an aircraft could lead to electronic distrubances and hence it can cause it to lose control
vyankatesh rathi: vibratior can be switchd off
Bhatia Sailesh: drink
Gaurav Mittal: but at the same time, mobile phone jammers could be installed to make sure, that the mobile signals are completely cut off during that tie
deplex2002: but wat when u r traveling or in a lecture
Gaurav Mittal: time
Bhatia Sailesh: i think vibration is not a problem
vyankatesh rathi: ya i agree
deplex2002: i think vibration is a problem
Bhatia Sailesh: coz its on a person how to keep the mobile
vyankatesh rathi: while in lectures thr r clear instructions to switch off mobiles
deplex2002: while traveling
Bhatia Sailesh: on ringing or on vibration or on silent
Bhatia Sailesh: its not a problem
vyankatesh rathi: while travellin whts the prblm
deplex2002: u cannot hear the ring
Bhatia Sailesh: ya it should hav a fine if it is kept on ringing in college
Gaurav Mittal: yes! i do admit, that camera phones are spreading a menace with obscenity but then if we grow more mature, then we can realise what shud not be done.. .... this is quite related to pornography and hence can't be attributed as a strong cause to ban mobiles
Bhatia Sailesh: ya
Bhatia Sailesh: i agree
Bhatia Sailesh: only camera phones shoud be banned
Gaurav Mittal: mobiles provide one of the cheapest means of communication through sms, mms etc......
vyankatesh rathi: no idont agree
deplex2002: yes i agree
vyankatesh rathi: sailesh
vyankatesh rathi: bannin camera mobiles is not solution
deplex2002: then wats the solution
Bhatia Sailesh: y
vyankatesh rathi: pornography, scandals willl still do exists
vyankatesh rathi: its upto the persons how thy use cells as said by gaurav
Bhatia Sailesh: ya
Bhatia Sailesh: so lastly i want to say tht mobile is a boon not a ban
Gaurav Mittal: the solutions lies in being more matured..... Noone can gurantee that once camera-based mobile phones are banned, pornography will cease to exist...... one needs to be mature enuf to understand what is socially gud
vyankatesh rathi: and talkin about health issues
vyankatesh rathi: innovations r bein made to improve the technology
vyankatesh rathi: whch wont affect the health
Gaurav Mittal: Mobile phones can be used to disturb/annoy ppl ...... but then, there are many ways in which that can be countered, eg switching off the cell...... and reporting the no. of the blank caller......
Bhatia Sailesh: lastly frm my point of view every thing has a limit if used in unlimited the its harmful
Gaurav Mittal: There have been issues like radiation concern using the mobile phone...... but then, there are solutions that can be worked upon..... for instance, keeping the cell at a dist. instead of the pocket
deplex2002: yes i agrre with u shailesh
deplex2002: if u r not keepin in a pocket then where will u keep
Gaurav Mittal: in a bag.....
Bhatia Sailesh: it can be kept in cover
Gaurav Mittal: or using a belt-case
Bhatia Sailesh: on u r heap
vyankatesh rathi: thr many thngs whr a mobile cn be kept in
Gaurav Mittal: so that the effects are least.......
vyankatesh rathi: as said above
Bhatia Sailesh: ok frends i m leveing
Bhatia Sailesh: enjoyed the gd
Bhatia Sailesh: bye to all

Gaurav Mittal: So as i said earlier, everything comes with a package of disadv as well and we need to be matured enuf to figure out what solutions can be worked out to convert these disadv into adv

deplex2002: there are disadvantages of camera phones in examination also
deplex2002: like many students take a photo of the answer and copy in the examination
Gaurav Mittal: well, if u keep ur mobile phones off and deposit them with the invigilator, then i guess that issue doesnt come into the picture
vyankatesh rathi: thts the point. one cannot blame einsten for givn e=mc2 only b'coz others made nuclear bomb out of it. maturity is the key
deplex2002: but everyone will not do it
Gaurav Mittal: well...... for ur information, almost all the univ/colleges have this rule of banning mobiles in the exam hall
Gaurav Mittal: and others ask u to deposit it with the invigilator
vyankatesh rathi: ya. the rules r now more stringent
deplex2002: but some students dont
vyankatesh rathi: thts the point deplex. maturity

Gd taker: stop.............................................. ........
Gd taker: time up

Gd taker: so now.. u can all give ur conclusion...

vyankatesh rathi: maturity is the key. nuthin created by man has bane until and unless used properly and with mautrity
deplex2002: I think so mobile are boon as well as a Bane
Gaurav Mittal: So as i said earlier, everything comes with a package of disadv as well and we need to be matured enuf to figure out what solutions can be worked out to convert these disadv into adv.... Hence i say mobiles are definitely a boon hitherto they have certain disadv.... but man is smart enuf to figure out the solution for all their disadv

I would like to just put across a point when you are in a group discussion. Try to have a focus on a single point rather than being in the middle of the subject wherein u are not sticking to somethin... Wen a person is judging the GD his focus would be to understand how clear are you with the concept in the mind and how well can u bring it out.. Being on a mid-pt YES/NO situation would be much of safe you could say....!!
