When To Take The Tests

The section of the MBA Site devoted to Your MBA gives detailed advice on when to prepare and take your test. Much depends on your starting score and eventual score goal - clearly it will take more time to build your score up 200 points rather than 100. Unless you're already scoring at a very high level, give yourself at least two months. If you need to prepare more quickly, consider private test preparation tutoring.

The TOEFL requires a minimum of two weeks focused prep provided your level of English is already advanced (if you can read this page without a dictionary, you're in pretty good shape).

REGISTERING FOR THE TESTS
Both the GMAT and the TOEFL are available on computer (CAT = Computer Adaptive Test) at one of the hundreds of Sylvan Test Centers around the world. The easiest way to register is to go online at the website of Educational Testing Service:

Make sure to have your agenda and credit card handy. Current prices are: $200 for the GMAT, $100 for the TOEFL.

In general, ETS offers both the GMAT and the TOEFL twelve months a year during the final three weeks of each month. Most test-takers report having no problems reserving a test time and date, even only a few days before their tests, but be aware that some high-demand dates can fill up weeks in advance. We suggest you schedule your test at least three weeks in advance. You can take the exams only once a month.

Anyone registering for either test needs to read carefully the GMAT (or TOEFL) Information and Registration Bulletin. These publications provide detailed information about registration, the tests themselves, and testing and score reporting procedures.
