Women empowerment case study for Raksha Bandhan celebrations in India

On 9th and 10th more then 1,800 women, children (from various social organizations and school, colleges, NGOs) took part in celebrating Raksahbandhan with Police, Traffic,Home Gaurds, criminals
in lockup and Truck drivers regardless of cast, creed, religion all over Gujarat. Majorly Ahmedabad, Baroda, Anand, Porbander, Junagadh,Gandhinagar. More then 15,000 Rakhis were tied and the 1091 Fight Back Right Now-Surakshabands were distributed.

We had 3 main objectives:
1. To thank police and all for protecting us
2. To bridge the gap between police and women. So that women gain
confidence in police activities as well as donot be afraid to go to
police when required.
3. To generate awareness that 1091 is always with them 24x7.

But then there were also social message given to others

The message to them was:
1. Thanks for protecting and taking care of Women Safety Security and all Citizens
2. Pls respect women and take care of there dignity
3.Take care of your health and refrain from bad habits like smoking, chewing tobacco etc
4. Pls see that the women get full advantage of the laws which are for them.
5. Women are not deprived of Justice
6.Specially to lockup-criminals we told them to pledge that they will leave criminal activities
7. For truck drivers. pls drive safely and refrain from bad habits like smoking, chewing tobacco etc.
8. For truck drivers. If a women asks for lift pls give it to her and protect her.
9. For traffic police. Take care of there health and and refrain from bad habits like smoking, chewing tobacco etc.
10. For traffic offenders. We told them to drive carefully and take care of women, senior citizen and also reminded that a sister is waiting for them back home


Lots of police officers also gave a speech to the women, children and told that there priority is women safety and security. They are there to protect them. They also told that they are taking care to see that
women's gold chain donot get snatched.

All the women, children who participated were joyous and they also commented that they were always afraid of police and hesitant to go to police station. But now as they have visited today in this festive
mood. They have gained confidence that yes police is there to protect them. They also saw the other human side of police and got touched by it.
