Ultra low-cost Sakshat tablets set to take off

SAKSHAT is a tablet computer designed in India, which is aimed at the students to bridge the digital divide.Recently Unveiling the prototype of the gadget, the human resource development minister Kabil Sibal told that it was India's answer to the "$100 laptops" developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US. The tablet will be subsided by the indian government and will sold to educational institutions in India and it will not be available in retail. The government has awarded the contract of manufacturing initial 1 million devices to HCL Technology.The first shipment will supposedly only contain the 7-inch model and is set to arrive on January 10.The human resource development (HRD) ministry also announced that the IIT-Rajasthan will carry out intensive laboratory and field tests of this $35 tablet PC .
