Suppose you want to multiply 88 by 98.

Not easy, you might think. But with
VERTICALLY AND CROSSWISE you can give
the answer immediately, using the same method
as on the page.

Both 88 and 98 are close to 100.
88 is 12 below 100 and 98 is 2 below 100.

You can imagine the sum set out like this:

88 - 12
x 1
98 - 2
_____
86 - 24

As before the 86 comes from
subtracting crosswise: 88 - 2 = 86
(or 98 - 12 = 86: you can subtract
either way, you will always get
the same answer).
And the 24 in the answer is
just 12 x 2: you multiply vertically.
So 88 x 98 = 8624

Hey thats great! You know you can also solve this using Vedic maths.. 88*98 can also be done like this:- we first multiply the digits at ones place= 8*8= 64 and take 6 as carryover.. therafter, we cross multiply,i.e, (8*8)+(8*9) and add the carryover 6 to it to get 142. Now we take 14 as carryover and then multiply 8*9 to get 72; add the carryover 14 to get 86..
So our answer is 8624!

you can easily find the square of a number ending with 5
for instance square of 75 = 5625, just write 5*5i.e 25 on the right hand side , then multiply the digit in the tens place with the [digit+1] her 7*[7+1] i.e7*8=56, write tis on the left hand side and we have the answer 5625
another ex - square of 45
1] --25 now 4*[4+1]i.e 4*5
2]2025
