The British ruler of India for the massive drain wealth from this country to England during their rule. The drain of wealth from India to England led to the main cause of the increasing poverty in India. This also contributed to the countries underdevelopment.The drain of wealth from India to England was equal to the excess of exports over imports. In this way the British rulers in the India exploited the money of India and on the other hand they exploited the trade in India.


The drain of the India’s wealth to England was significant to the contribution to the Industrial Revolution in the later stage.
Some of the exploitations were in the from of:


 EXPORT OF MACHINE MADE GOODS TO INDIA.

 DEVELOPMENT OF JUTE INDUSTRY AND PLANTATION.

 REENUE AND EXPENDITURE POLICIES OF THE BRITISH RULE.


The exploitation of India by the British industrial capital in the nineteenth century brought about a drastic change in the nature of the Indian economy. It was a period of economic underdevelopment. The statistical basis of the estimates was quite weak.


In 1876 in his poverty and Un-British Rule in India Dadabhai Naoroji declared “India is suffering seriously in several ways and is sinking I poverty and that the masses of India do not get enough to provide the basic necessities of life”.



Due to the land tenure introduction in India by the British rule and the land taxes levied by them suffered form serious defects. Due to the defective land tenure system, virtually no investments were made in agriculture and the farm technology remained backward.
