Major Brands:

I. TIDE:

Tide is the World's Oldest and Most Trusted Billion Dollar Detergent and is the market leader in 23 Countries around the world with a turnover of $4Bn. Tide provides outstanding whiteness on white clothes and provides excellent everyday cleaning for colored clothes too. Launched in India in mid-2000, Tide has endeared itself with Indian home makers. It employs “anti-redisposition” global technology providing superior whiteness through tough dirt removal and maximum whiteness effect. Tide is available not only in sachets but also as a bar having green speckles called “Whiteons” to deliver superior whiteness, which is further enhanced when clothes are being dried under the sun, as Whiteons release a unique whitening action on reacting with sunlight. New Tide Bar's technology also ensures that it lasts longer, does not dissolve easily and delivers a good balance between bar-hardness and ease of application on clothes. It has a lemony & refreshing fragrance that lingers on clothes and is priced at par with other leading detergent bars at Rs. 5 for a 75gm. bar, Rs. 8.50 for a 125gm. bar, and Rs. 13 for a 200gm. Bar.
Tide’s advertisement campaign was being handled by Leo Burnett India. It was creative ad campaign starring Shekhar Suman was divided into two phases during its pre and post launch in 2001 and it focused on its value-for-money proposition. Tide contains safe ingredients for normal fabrics and skin under recommended usage conditions for laundry, and meets the Company's stringent human and environmental safety standards.
Soon after P&G India slashed the price of its detergents- Ariel and Tide, in order to make a move from the premium cream to volume dream Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL, Indian subsidiary of the mighty Dutch company Unilever) too matched its price cuts.

P&G is changing the rules it plays by to adapt to the Indian market. After being a premium player in the FMCG business for almost a decade, today it is on a price-cutting spree and wants its brands to reach out to the masses. The first signs of this new-found aggression were visible when P&G reduced the price of 500 grams pack of Ariel from Rs 70 to Rs 50 - a drop of 28 per cent and price of 500 grams pack of Tide from Rs 43 to Rs 23 - a fall of 44 per cent. In retaliation, within two days, HLL slashed price of its premium brand Surf Excel from Rs 70 to Rs 50 and price of Surf Excel Blue from Rs 50 to Rs 38.The main objective of P&G behind this was to expand the upper end of the market where quality products are sold at a price which is not affordable to many.
