AMETEK, Inc is a manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices with headquarters in the United States and over 80 manufacturing sites worldwide.
The company was founded in 1930 and has been listed since on the NYSE under the ticker symbol. The company's original name, American Machine and Metals, was changed to AMETEK in the early 1960, reflecting AME's evolution from a provider of heavy machinery to a manufacturer of analytical instruments, precision components and specialty materials.
Ametek today consists of two major groups (the Electronic Instruments Group and the Electromechanical Group). Together, these two groups and their respective divisions combine a total of over 100 brands, including analytical instruments, monitoring, testing and calibration devices as well as electrical motors, pumps and interconnects. The company's headquarters are in Paoli, Pennsylvania.

Distribution Strategy
During the 1980s, one Ametek group partnered with the California Institute of Technology to assemble hypercube topology computers. It is not known how many systems were delivered, but the market came to be dominated by Intel, NCUBE, and Floating Point Systems.
On April 11,2010, AMETEK, Inc. announced acquisition of Madison, Wisconsin based 3D atom probes manufacturer Imago Scientific Instruments.
On November 9, 2010, AMETEK, Inc. Acquired Chicago based provider of weathering test instruments and related testing and consulting services Atlas Material Testing Technology LLC, from Industrial Growth Partners for $159 million in cash.

AMETEK, Inc. (NYSE: AME) today announced that it has acquired Haydon Enterprises, a leading manufacturer of high-precision motion control products, from the Harbour Group, a St. Louis-based private equity group, for approximately $270 million in cash. The acquisition of Haydon Enterprises is expected to add approximately $0.05 per diluted share to 2010 earnings and approximately $0.13 per diluted share to earnings in AMETEK’s first year of ownership.

Headquartered in Waterbury, CT, with additional manufacturing operations in Hollis and Milford, NH, and Changzhou, China, Haydon is a leader in linear actuators and lead screw assemblies for the medical, industrial equipment, aerospace, analytical instrument, computer peripheral and semiconductor industries with estimated 2010 sales of approximately $85 million.

“Haydon is an outstanding addition to AMETEK,” notes Frank S. Hermance, AMETEK Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Haydon’s product line complements our highly differentiated technical motor business, which shares common markets, customers and distribution channels, and places AMETEK in a unique position as the premiere industry provider of high-end linear and rotary motion control solutions.”

Haydon joins AMETEK's Electromechanical Group - a differentiated supplier of electrical interconnects, specialty metals, technical motors and systems, floor care motors and specialty motors with 2009 sales of $952 million.

AMETEK, Inc. has completed its acquisition of HCC Industries ("HCC"), a leading designer and manufacturer of highly engineered hermetic connectors, terminals, headers and microelectronic packages for sophisticated electronic applications in the aerospace, defense, industrial and petrochemical markets. Headquartered near Los Angeles, CA, HCC has annual sales of approximately $104 million. It was acquired from an investor group led by Windward Capital Partners and management for approximately $162 million in cash.

"HCC becomes a new platform for our Electromechanical Group. The excellent internal growth of this business coupled with our ability to add additional synergistic acquisitions should enable this new platform to become a major part of our Electromechanical Group," comments Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Frank S. Hermance.

"HCC's significant technological differentiation and strong customer orientation enable the rapid design and production of hermetic (moisture-proof) connectors, terminals, headers and microelectronic packages for customers’ specific applications. There is considerable synergy with AMETEK’s markets and distribution channels, particularly in Aerospace and Defense as well as shared technology with our Specialty Metal Products Division," added Mr. Hermance.

HCC designs and manufactures high-precision glass-to-metal seals and ceramic-to-metal seals. These seals protect sensitive electronics from the environment as well as provide thermal management capabilities. Products fall into three categories: connectors, terminals and headers, and microcircuit packaging. Connectors facilitate the passage of electrical current between two devices and allow them to be mechanically coupled and decoupled. Terminals and headers are interconnect devices that isolate electrical signals. Microcircuit packaging protects semiconductor circuitry from the environment.
