PROBLEMS OF AIR TRANSPORT:

Air transport is not widely developed in all the countries of the world compared to other modes of transport due to following reasons:

1. Though it is a fastest mode of transport it is costly mode of transport. Construction of routes is not required but it requires costly fuel. It is not affordable for the goods as well as passengers in the developing countries.

Only rich countries like U.S.A can afford to develop air transport

2. As it is very costly mode of transport it is not useful for low value and bulky goods.

Example: Iron and coal, Industrial goods cannot be carried by air transport.

3. Air transport has limited carrying capacity compare to water and rail transport, which are mainly used for the transport of goods. Due to limited carrying capacity very few goods can be carried.

4. Development of air transport depends upon political relation between the countries. Air transport may be restricted by political consideration. Some countries banned flight across their territory for security and other reasons.

Example: In India, the Jet Airways of private sector had planned to introduce new flight Mumbai-London-New York. But U.S.A rejects it as American Jet Airways says that Indian Jet Airways has its connection with Al-Quaida.

5. Weather conditions imposed greater control on air transport than the land transport. Movement of air crafts requires fine weather and clear skies. It cannot be develop in the area of heavy rainfall or cold climate region. Also, snowfall, rainfall, foggy climate are very harmful for air transport.
