Global Warming- Act or Perish

How often have you helped an old lady cross a street?

Have you spared a thought before helping a blind man to safety?

If we can be selfless in performing such small acts of humanity why not add just another to our list??

Global Warming......Is it just a hyped topic of discussion created by good-for-nothings??

No!! It’s true. Don't you feel the sweltering heat every summer? What do you think caused the Katrina, the tsunami, so many cyclones and tornados at mind boggling intensities?

We can turn a blind eye or we can promise to contribute in the smallest way possible....

Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation.

The average air temperature near the Earth's surface rose very high during the 100 years ending in 2005. Most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the increase in the greenhouse effect.

Natural phenomena like volcanoes probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950 and a small cooling effect from 1950 onward. These basic conclusions have been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of the major industrialized countries.

Climate model projections indicate that average global surface temperature will likely rise further during the next century. The range of values results from the use of differing scenarios of future greenhouse gas emissions as well as models with differing climate sensitivity. The delay in reaching equilibrium is a result of the large heat capacity of the oceans.

Increasing global temperature will cause sea level to rise, and is expected to increase the intensity of extreme weather events and to change the amount and pattern of precipitation. Other effects of global warming include changes in agricultural yields, trade routes, glacier retreat, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors.

Remaining scientific uncertainties include the amount of warming expected in the future, and how warming and related changes will vary from region to region around the globe. Most national governments have signed a pact for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but there is ongoing political and public debate worldwide regarding what, if any, action should be taken to reduce or reverse future warming or to adapt to its expected consequences.

None of the effects of forcing are instantaneous. The inertia of the Earth's oceans and slow responses of other indirect effects mean that the Earth's current climate is not in equilibrium with the forcing imposed.

Because Global Warming does not affect me or you.... it will affect our future generations add a few minutes, hours, days, and maybe years to their lives.....

If I can add a few minutes to someone's life by turning off all the computer switches or by refusing to use plastic bags or by walking instead of driving when possible, I believe I have made myself useful for a selfless cause.

A little bit of trouble on our part for such a noble cause....

Is it too much to ask for???
