Introduction
As a guitar player, chords are your bread and butter. They form the basis of almost every song and are the building blocks for most of the things that you will learn on the guitar. If you don't already know, a chord is a combination of at least two notes that are played simultaneously, creating a fuller, richer sound than can be achieved by playing each note individually. While most chords involve at least three notes played simultaneously, some may use even more. Also, chords usually involve playing multiple strings at the same time, which is called strumming. For more information on the basics of guitar playing, see Mahalo's guide to How to Play Guitar. On this page we will look at three of the most widely used chord "Families": Major Chords, Minor Chords and Seventh Chords. We will go over the finger positions for each of the chords (along with helpful diagrams) and explain a little bit about what makes each chord unique. Let's get started.
Before we jump right in to how to play each chord, let's briefly go over some of the basic things that you will need to know in order to use the information below.
Strings
A normal guitar has six strings, each of which has a different size and note value. In standard tuning, the bottom string (also the skinniest and highest sounding) is an E note. This is also known as the 1st string. The 2nd string up (a little bit thicker and lower sounding) is a B note. The 3rd string up is a G note, 4th is a D, 5th is an A, and the 6th string (thickest, lowest sounding, and closest to your body) is also an E note. When in tune, playing the 1st and the 6th strings open should produce the same note, albeit at different pitches. Mnemonic devices can help you remember the order of the strings: For example, from top to bottom: Eat All Day Get Big Easy. Or come up with your own.
Frets

Photo by MahaloWhile the strings divide the guitar from left to right (as in the diagram), frets are small metal strips that divide the guitar into sections from top to bottom. If you look at your guitar from above, you can begin to see that the strings and frets together form a kind of grid that covers the entire neck of the guitar. Placing your finger on a string in between two of the frets is what enables you to play a note. The higher up you get on the frets, the higher the notes sound. In general, each fret is a half-step higher than the previous fret.

Build a website?

Google Page Creator (GPC)

It is a free beta online website development tool introduced by Google last year. Anyone who has a Google mail account can login to Google Page creator (GPC) to build a mini website with no HTML knowledge needed. It is easy to use, built in with a number of features and allowing AdSense ads. Besides that, users will enjoy free hosting. All the GPC websites published by users are hosted by Google and Google doesn’t charge a single for the hosting. But in term of webpage optimization, GPC doesn't provide many options. And users cannot use their own domain names for their GPC websites. Each GPC website is given with a sub-domain name of Google. The tool is right for beginners who want to build a content website and make money with AdSense.

Website to learn more about how to use GPC:

Hypervre

Hypervre was developed by Matt Callen. The site builder automatically creates SEO friendly content web pages based on keywords of your choice. The site builder is specially created for people who want to build websites specifically to make money with AdSense and affiliate programs. The best part of the software is that you don't need to figure out where to place your AdSense ads on your web pages, you just add your AdSense code during the web page creation process and your AdSense ads will appear on the high click-through rate areas of your web pages after publishing your website to the net. You can also add your Amazon and Clickbank ads if you upgrade to paid membership. The builder saves time and work but only limited to building content-based website. And Hypervre.com doesn’t provide hosting service like Google Page creator. You need to upload your Hypervre sites to your paid hosting accounts using your own domain names.

Bluevoda Website Builder

It is an advanced website builder that allows you to create e-commerce site, sale page, AdSense & affiliate content-based website and many more. They provide video tutorial to help you begin. You can choose to design your site from scratch or use their ready made templates. Although the site owner of Bluevoda claims that users can build their own site without technical knowledge but my experience on Bluevoda is that it will make you easier if you learn some basic HTML code. To publish your Bluevoda site, You must register a domain name and sign up for a paid hosting account with Vodahost.com.

There might be many reasons why you want to block your cell phone number from showing up on other people's caller IDs. Whatever the reason is, it's very simple to block your cell phone number. You have two options: you can permanently block your phone number or you can block your number on a call by call basis.There's no need for an expensive cell phone blocker or other cell phone blocking devices - this is an easy, affordable process.

If you're trying to figure out who's calling you from an unlisted cell phone, check out Reverse Phone Detective.

Blocking Your Cell Phone Number Permanently:

The most permanent solution is to request a "line block" from your cell phone carrier.

1. To do this you simply need to call the customer service for your specific provider and they can block your number. When you do this your number will never show up to anyone.
2. To call your wireless customer service to block your cell phone number, just dial 611 from your cell phone and you will reach them.
3. If there is a situation where you want your number to show up, you will still have an option. When you have a permanent block on your cell phone number you will need to dial *82 before dialing the number you are calling. When you do this your phone number will show up just once for that specific call. Ex: *82 (555) 555-5555.

Did you know that you or anybody else can look up unknown cell phone numbers online? Here are two top sites for looking up cell phone numbers:

* PhoneNumberScan.com
* National Registry of Cellular Numbers (NRCN)

how to block phone numbersBlocking Your Cell Phone Number Temporarily:

Sometimes you may want to block you number from caller id for a specific call. You might not want someone to know that you are trying to reach them for the 15th time in a row, or you might be calling a business and might not want them to know your number. Whatever the reason, it's easy to block cell phone numbers.

1. If you want to block your cell phone number on a call by call basis you need to dial *67 before dialing the number. Ex *67 (555) 555-5555.
2. When you do this you will not have any feedback that it worked. If you want to test this, just call your home phone, or anther phone that has a caller ID from your cell to confirm that blocking your phone number worked.

One important thing to remember is that your number will not be blocked from emergency services or any toll free number - cell phone blocking only works when you call businesses and individuals.

Another strategy you can use is caller id spoofing, which displays a different name and number than the one you're calling from. Be careful when signing up for a caller id spoofing service - some fake caller id services are illegal. There are many other caller id tricks; however, it's important to be cautious. Anything that shows the caller id a phone number that belongs to somebody else could be illegal.

Finally, if you want to have people call you while keeping your main phone number private, you can get a call forwarding service. The person calling you will dial a telephone number
that will then connect to your phone - without them knowing your real number. There are many call forwarding services - a famous one is Google Voice.

Learning to read sheet music can seem daunting to some people, especially those with no prior musical background. Sheet music contains its own little language documented on paper. The key is to find a way to crack the code, read music, and be able to play or sing on the pitch of each note.

If you want to learn how to read music, then you have come to the right place. The following article contains a guide that will teach you how to read sheet music as well as lists resources you can use to learn more about music, in general.

If you want to learn more -- and in one night, no less -- here's a recommendation: Learn to Read Music In One Evening. Who doesn't want instant gratification? If you prefer video music lessons, which can be extremely helpful when learning to read music, I strongly recommend Music Master Pro.

1. The structure of sheet music. Sheet music is set up with a specific structure. The staff of the sheet music is made up of everything you will need to be able to read music. Depending on a variety of factors, the staff will tell you exactly what notes you will need to play. The first thing you need to do is be able to identify the staff.

* What is the staff? The staff is a set of five lines and four spaces. Each space and line has the name of a note. On the staff, you will find notes, a time signature, a clef sign, a key signature, and various markings that will affect the tempo and pitch of each note. All of these things work together to create the music that is played or sung.
* What are clefs and why do we use them? Based on what instrument you play - piano, guitar (acounstic or bass), violin, trombone, you name it - or what voice you sing (tenor, bass, alto, soprano, etc.) your music will be written in one of two clefs (treble clef & bass clef). These clefs are used to let you know what octave you are playing the notes in, as well as what notes will be played.

o The treble clef - The treble clef is used for most musical voices including soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, and tenor. It is also used for the higher pitched instruments such as the alto clarinet, the B-Flat clarinet, the flute, oboe, violin and trumpet. The treble clef can be memorized by the following acronyms.

Lines - Every Good Boy Does Fine

Spaces - F A C E
o The bass clef - The bass clef is used for the bass and baritone voices and lower instruments such as the tuba, trombone, and sousaphone. The bass clef was created because the notes for these lower instruments would be so low beneath the Treble Clef staff it would be very hard to write music that was easy for players to read.

The bass clef notes can be memorized by:

Lines -Good Boys Do Fine Always

Spaces - All Cows Eat Grass

* The key signature: Some notes are flat, some are natural, and some are sharp. Which notes are sharp, flat, or natural will be marked either next to individual notes if they are played as such one or two times through a piece or in something called the key signature if they are played as such throughout the entire piece.

The key signature is located directly to the right of the clef sign. Which notes are sharp or flat depend on scales and keys. To learn more about the various key signatures you can check out the following website: http://cnx.org/content/m10881/latest/

* The time signature: Near the beginning of the staff, there is a symbol marking, or a fraction. This tells how many notes per measure will be played. The staff is split up into measures. Each measure is separated by a vertical line. The standard key signature is 4/4 time. It is usually denoted by a large black C.

Other common time signatures are 2/2 time (cut time), 2/4 time, 3/4 time, and 6/8 time. The time signature is written after the key signature, but before any notes on the staff.
2. Notes, notes, and more notes. The fundamental structure of each pitch is denoted by a music note. There are plenty of things you need to know about a note before you can play or sing music. The most common things you will need to know is how long to hold each note, whether the note is sharp, natural, or flat, and what the name of each note is so it can be played.

* Name that note: Notes have a letter name from A-G. Once a note gets to G, it starts over again at A. Notes from A to A, B to B, C to C, and so on denote one whole octave. Octaves can move up or down, and the standard singer has between two and four octaves their voice can sing comfortably.

* Hold the note as long as you can! It would be difficult for an orchestra to make music together if they did not know how long to hold each note. Each instrument would go off on their own beat or melody, and nothing would come together properly. This is why it is so important you know what each note looks like and how long you are supposed to hold the note based on how they look.

Whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes are common in sheet music. There are other types of notes though these are less common. The notes work together with the time signature to determine how many beats per measure should be held. The standard hold for each note is written with the time signature of 4/4 in mind. However, as time signatures change, how long you hold the note will change, as well.

3. All those funny symbols. There are many different symbols throughout sheet music. Every symbol is important. Based on what symbol you are looking at you may need to play notes or the musical piece in general faster or slower, bars should be repeated, notes should be held, or the music should get louder or quieter.

* Tempo changes. The changes in tempo are denoted by a symbol for an Italian word. Here is a list and pictures of the various tempo changes music can experience: Tempo Terminology - Tempo Qualifiers

* Volume changes. Changes in volume help to improve the mood of the piece. Not every piece of music is sung or played as loud as the person can sing. Changes in volume help to make the music more enjoyable and dramatic so works are not stagnant in tone. Here is a list of the following volume changes as well as pictures of their symbols: Table of Dynamic Markings

* Other symbols - There are many other symbols such as holds, ties, crescendo marks, repeats, rests, and so much more. Depending on how long you have studied music you may or may not know what these symbols mean.

Check out Virginia Tech's music dictionary for an explanation of all of the terms and symbols that are necessary to know if you plan to read sheet music: Virginia Tech Multimedia Music Dictionary

4. Pianos do things differently. Pianos are unique in the fact that they are one of the few instruments which use both the treble clef and the bass clef at the same time. While a clarinet player only needs to know the treble clef to play and a bass only needs to know the bass clef to sing, pianists need to know both if they wish to learn piano and excel at their craft.

The left hand of a pianist is used to play the notes on the bass clef of piano sheet music. The right hand of a pianist is used to play the notes on the treble clef of the piano sheet music. One of the hardest parts of playing the piano is learning to read both clefs and play them at the same exact time since piano music is written in such a way that both hands are used to play at the same time. This takes quite a bit of practice until a pianist can truly get the hang of it.

5. Learn from a professional - Take music lessons. If you wish to become a singer or musician, you must learn how to read sheet music in music lessons. Solid music education is immensely helpful in learning to play guitar, piano, oboe, violin or any instrument. A professional has been trained to the point where it is second nature to read music, and all the various instrumentation markings that are listed in the music.

There are many different places you can take music lessons. Your local College or University should be able to offer non-student music education to those who are willing to pay for it. Usually, these music lessons cost upwards of $20 per half an hour lesson. You may also know someone in your area that is interested in giving you lessons at a lower rate.

To find a musical professional in your area you can check out: MusicStaff.com-Music Teacher Locator-Zip Code Based Search Service

6. Study on your own. The Internet has given you the opportunity to learn how to read sheet music on your own. Many online music sites and music software programs go more in depth than this article has. It takes musicians years to learn everything they need to know about sheet music and even then it is a constantly evolving process.

If you are serious about learning how to read music and play the instrument of your choice, check out the following music sites:

* Piano For All
* How to Read Music
* Reading Music Notes - For Kids
* Reading Music Notes - For Adults
* Learn 2 Read Music
* Introduction to Reading Music
* Music Lab

Learning how to read sheet music should be fun. However, it is also requires a lot of hard work and dedication. Nobody said learning to play piano is easy or learning guitar chords is a piece of cake. It all requires patience and practice. However, with the right motivation, it will be worth it and you will soon be playing, singing, or even learning to compose sheet music of your own. Taking music lessons and/or buying music software is money well-invested.

How To Take Better Digital Photos

If you're looking to take better digital photos without upgrading to an expensive camera, continue reading below. These tips are aimed at users of point-and-shoot digital cameras, and others who are beginners in photography or looking to improve their skills and know-how when it comes to using inexpensive digital cameras.

1. Get in close and keep it simple. You can almost always improve your digital photos by getting in closer (or zooming in closer) and getting the clutter out of the frame before you shoot. Take note of things in the background that could be distracting before you click the shutter.
2. Pre-focus for faster and sharper images. If you experience a delay (also known as shutter lag) when snapping your photos, it's happening because you have not told the camera what to focus on before taking the image. This is a very important step with point-and-shoot digital cameras. Press and hold the shutter button half-way down when you're preparing to take a photo, and then press the button all the way down the take the image. Your camera should take the photo much quicker, because the lens has already focused on the subject and, depending on the model of the camera, chosen the exposure settings to use for the image.
3. Turn off the digital zoom on your camera. You might have heard this tip before, but it's an important one. By turning off the digital zoom on your camera, your images will be higher in quality because they are not being degraded by processing in the camera. Digital zoom is NOT the same as optical zoom. Digital zoom is done by the camera's CPU and will always look poor, compared to sticking with the optical zoom. Ignore the digital zoom specification when purchasing a digital camera -- it's basically worthless.
4. Turn on Image Stabilization or Vibration Reduction if your camera has it. Most decent digital cameras over $200 sold in the last year have IS (Image Stabilization) or VR (Vibration Reduction) built into the camera. IS/VR is especially useful when shooting indoors, or under low-light conditions, and also when zooming on stationary objects. It will enable the camera to take a sharper image at a slower shutter speed without blur in the image from the camera shaking while the photo is being taken.
5. If at first you don't succeed -- try, try again. Using digital cameras is a learning process, so don't become discouraged if the shot doesn't come out right on the first try. Sometimes the camera can be at fault for the making the image too bright with overexposure. If the focus is off, try prefocusing again. If the color in your shot is muddy or too highly contrasted, try to adjust the saturation/enhancement settings in the camera, or adjust the white balance to fix the color. It may help you to know that professional photographers shoot tens or hundreds of images, and only a small portion of the images are just right, and only a few will be the best shots.

Hopefully after using some of these tips you'll be on your way to taking better digital photos. Consumer Reports and Popular Photography magazine are good places to start when looking for photography tips and when researching different cameras.

How To Track a Cell Phone

There are several reasons why you might want to track a cell phone. You may want to keep track of your kids for their own safety. You may want to track your phone if it should be stolen. Or you may have some nefarious reason for tracking someone using his or her phone. Whatever your reason, there are several options now available for tracking a cell phone. Follow these tips and you should be able to actively track a phone in less than an hour.

If your goal wasn't to monitor a cell phone but rather to figure out who's been calling you, trace the cell phone number back to them with the National Registry of Cellular Numbers (NRCN).

Materials:
Cell phone
Computer
Internet connection

1. Access the cell phone. In order to do the following steps, including loading software or installing a physical GPS chip, you will need access to the phone.
2. Load tracking software to the phone. If you are tracking your own cell phone because it was stolen, or you want to keep track of your kid’s location, consider a tracking program. There are several options including Wherify and uLocate that allow users to download software from the Internet to the cell phone.
3. Install a GPS tracker to the phone. GPS chips come in varieties so small, often smaller than a dime, which can be inserted in the back of the phone while the user isn’t paying attention. Once the chip is inserted, it can be powered by the cell phone and is virtually undetectable. Signals can be monitored through a program on your PC.
4. Load tracking software to your personal computer. In order to be able to track the phone, you need your computer to have compatible software. Tracking programs often include links to Google or Mapquest so you can view the phone’s location on a map. Software accuracy differs from being able to track the phone from within 100 feet to a few miles.
5. Activate the tracking system. Whichever form of tracking you use, it will have to be activated once it is installed. Follow the directions with your chosen software. Whenever possible, keep the phone with you until the service is activated. Some programs send a text message warning to the phone to indicate that a tracking program has been installed.
