Hungary's first cloned mouse born

Hungarian scientists have succeeded in producing the country's first cloned mouse, the head of the research team told MTI news agency Thursday.

The mouse, dubbed "Klonilla" is the fruit of three years of work by 20 researchers at the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Centre in Godollo, near Budapest.

Professor Andras Dinnyes said that the mouse was the first step on the road to producing other cloned animals.

Dinnyes said that the centre hoped to produce a rabbit by 2008 and then to move on to rats, pigs and cattle.
