Thane witnessed a historic moment when the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal of Tadwadi, Mazgaon, formed a nine-tier human pyramid at the dahi handi organised by Sanskriti Pratishthan.
The mandal took home a whopping Rs 11,11,111 for their achievement. The mandal by Bala Nandgaonkar, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader, reached Vartak Nagar around 8 pm, and began forming the foundation for their pyramid. Then, as the pyramid gained in height, spectators held their breath.

The final four tiers were made up of single members, climbing one on top of the other, with five-year-old Sakshi Sasud, dressed as Lord Krishna, topping the pyramid.
The moment she stood up to form the final tier, the crowd of least 5,000 erupted with applause.
Some time later another mandal, the Jai Jawan Mandal from Goregaon, accomplished the same feat.
