Smile Microsoft extends WinXP availability - October 1st, 2007

Microsoft will now allow Windows XP to live for five more months. Earlier it was announced that Windows XP sales shall be discontinues after January 2008 by OEM's and Retailers. However the deadline has now been extended till June.

Apparently poor sales (and performance and compatibility issues) of Vista has prompted this action. However Microsoft is banking on the Vista SP1 (due in early 2008) to resolve issues with Windows Vista.
