Taking action against office bully

Workplace offences can cause serious after effects if they are not resolved at the right time. One of the atrocities that employees face is getting bullied by your office colleagues. Bullying is any form of irrational or unfair behaviour depicted on a particular person that can take formidable consequences.

At the initial stages bullying is carried out just for fun and it may also lead to healthy friendship. But there should be some sort of limitation attached with it so that it does not go out of hand. Employees prefer to not complain on these issues as it may worsen the situation further. Staying calm or bypassing the situation seems like an easy resort but when the person who is being bullied decides to revert back it can lead to an acrimonious situation.

The domineering person could be more powerful in terms of his/her position or communication skills. Misuse of power to please oneself or others cannot be tolerated for long. Spreading false rumors and denigrating an employees image is also bullying. Taking credit for some task that your co-employee has done is also bullying.

Negative remarks that can disparage can lead to depression or anxiety. It can also cause adverse effects on ones health. Every organization should adopt certain policies against harassment. One should speak up rather than keeping mum about the situation. Involve others so that a group of people are aware of this mishap. If the situation gets worse then do not refrain from lodging a complaint. Employees are afraid of losing their job hence they do not complain. One should discuss these issues with their senior and take stringent actions. Do not forget that, “Bullies thrive wherever authority is weak.”
