Should Bollywood movies to be included in B-School Curriculium???

NOW A DAYS "MANAGEMENT" IS PRESENT IN EVERY FIELD ......B IT ENTERTAINMENT, SCIENCE OR EVEN TRANSPORTATION...................SO V CAN DEFINATELY STUDY & ANALYSE MANAGEMENT OF DIFERENT SECTORS

BOLLYWOOD: IN INDIA HUNDREDS OF MOVIES R MADE EVERY YEAR .............BUT ONLY FEW OF THEM MAKE IT 2 THE TOP.

BUT THE MAKING OF THESE MOVIES INVOLVE LOTS OF PLANNIN, ORGANISIN, BUDGET, MEETIN DEADLINES, PROMOTION,.........ETC

EVEN THOUGH ENDLESS EFFORTS R TAKEN IN PRODUCTION OF A FILM.............THEY R NOT IN A POSITION 2 MAKE AN IMPACT ON THE BOX OFFICE.

V AS MANAGEMENT STUDENTS HAVE A LOT 2 LEARN FROM THIS SECTOR....................STARTIN FROM ITS VARIOUS FUNCTIONS TO THE ANALYSIS OF THE REASONS 4 FAILURE & SO ON.

VARIOUS MANAGEMENT CONCEPTS CAN BE ANALYSED N THIS SECTOR ....................ALSO INCLUDIN BOLLY MOVIES WILL DEFINATELY HOOK THE STUDENTS ATTENTION IN THE CLASSROOM.............ATLEAST NOW V CAN COMBINE ENTERTAINMENT WITH LEARNIN.

THANX.

I'd say Why not ?

Some institutes are already discussing about movies like KRRISH and the managerial part of marketing the movies etc.

Now ofcourse, ever movie revolves around a story but every character has a insight to share. Consumer insights on what a rich guy prefers to buy wear show off etc etc.

A poor guy would share his consumer insights his dreams and the way he sees life.

Every movie is also for a specific target audience. So discussing on which parts of the country the movie rocked and which part it failed and if it failed then why so and vice versa.

i will also voice my opinion in favor of it.
as rightly said management is required everywhere....bollywood is a part of entertainment industry and the word industry will butress my view that y shud v add management studies....it's one of the most bloooming industry in india and even big banners have started picking the poeple from IIM's and other premier B schools....
bollywood is a gib time money game...lots of money is involved in the business..so to make it more profitable and more streamlines i believe B schools can play imp role...

I THINK Y NOT AS MGMT IS REQD IN EVERY INDUSTRY EVEN IN ENTERTAINMENT IND. OF WHICH BOLLYWOOD IS A PART. AND NOT ALL MOVIES R INSPIRED FROM HOLLYWOOD OR FROM BOOKS. THE MANAGEMENT ASPECT OF BOLLY MOVIES CAN BE THOUGHT AS TO HOW THEY PLAN, PREPARE BUDGETS,CO ORDINATE etc. THERE ARE MANY MOVIES MADE OVER PAST FEW DECADES WHICH CAN FIND THEIR PLACE IN B SCHOOL CURRICULUM.

:)thanku

:SugarwareZ-229: ..i feel...as far as investment is concerned its too much...so y not proper mgt procedures shud be followed...the planning..managing of the resources..controlling..execution..and monitoring etc...we also can do various analysis ...the swot...success factors...failures...and capacity utilization...i.e. money and people shud be utilized to the maximum ....right people 4 right kindda job....so there are many aspects which a managemnet education can provide.....:SugarwareZ-191:

hiee dear...according to me..it should b allowed..d audio-visual arts have always played a significant role in children literary experiences.as early as middle ages, long before children held picture books in their hands.today technology not only allows a highly sophisticated interaction bet. text and illustration on d page, but it also has set story in motion on celluloid.currently film viewing playa a major role in popular culture and in d daily lives of d students..
students familiarity wid media can make film and video a powerful tool.several studies demonstrate that the use of media can b an effective tool in the language arts classroom.the teachers can use television/videos in conjuction wid texts .this increases reading comprehension and attention of the students.
wen teachers expands their methods of literacy instruction to include multimedia, they may b able to reach more students in the language arts classroom and meet students...students can even response favourably
just take an example of recent movie krrish or rang de basanti or lage raho munna bhai...if this movies are shown in the classroom with a positive vibe and good moral...children will understand the importance of ethics and values better.

Any movie made involve many things such manpower planning, organising, staffing, directing, budgeting, controlling i.e in short, the function of a manager so Bollywood movies can be used for learning process and can be included in the B schools curricullum.

It also helps to make employees learn the importance of teamwork and the mission of the organisation thru movies such as LAGAAN, CHAK DE INDIA, IQBAL, AANKHEN, JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDER and many more ....

well, if this industry is booming at such a tremendous rate, then why not. Today, we already have examples like Maniratnam n many other ppl who have done their MBA and moved into this field.
