The elections are around the corner...

what does your report card say about the UPA ... have they succeeded ? or have they failed ? have they reached out to the 'aam aadmi' as their slogan suggested ?

please elaborate with specific examples rather than a simple pass or fail

SUCCESS.

Have u seen the Crude Price increase in the UPA & NDA regime. What NDA used to do KEEP RISING PRICES EVERY two months, even though the crude price in Intl Mkt was not rising as fast, they wer pretty stable then. Not rising as it happened in the last 6 months. Even if u call it Political limitation but UPA didnt raise the prices.

Same with Railways, they appointed IIM Professor to study, and that fool said to Privatise Railway, it is BIG ELEPHANT n all. Burden on Govt.

What LALU did a turnaround. He showed the way. Railways raking in THOUSANDS of Crores. And to top it all without raising a Rupee But infact Cutting a rupee. Effect A call from IIM's and Harvard, institutes wher most of us dream to join. Lectured by whom , one who is PROJECTED as most Corrupt. Moment u say corruption Ppl tak Lalus name first, as if rest all CLEAN. C th Charges against him 25 lacs - 40 lacs.

And still Cynic mind prevails, who tell it was done by Officials Or he is window dressing. If so then one shud also accept all the Officials r eununchs. Cant they find the flaws in these days of extreme media glare. Why cant they show truth to the nation, why Worry abt JOB? Coz Criticism for th sake of it.

Come to Telecommunications, the rates were coming down every few months Then came Pramod Mahajan who raised those rates by cutting a three minute LOCAL call to 2minutes, just to favour Reliance. BJP can do it coz they r said to b URBAN based. Masses dont opt for them.

Then all thos MIG crashes n George Fernandes still had his face to show with nothing less than a COFFIN SCAM.

Again hav u heard in the past 4 years abt VHP, RSS extremist stands, lik they wer doin in NDA regime. They will return now.

Not to say UPA is all Clean but they always Choose Lesser evil to please the nation.

for me, the most defining position of the BJP was the babri masjid and the godhra riots. i think i'll always associate bjp with hindutva extremism..

so UPA is definitely lesser of the two evils..

but it seems to be perpetually in a see-saw .. there are times when it promotes capitalism and then at the same time come up with a poorly planned 60,000 crore farmers loans waiver.... on one side it fights tooth and nail for the nuclear deal and then at the same time increases reservations in educational institutions
... sometimes it goes and hard-sell manmohan singh and then does a turn around and seem to be at the back and call of sonia gandhi...

i think its trying to play at too many vote banks and is alienatiing itself from all ...

inflation, the kashmir mess and the parliament fiasco - 3 major losses just before elections .. its going to be an uphill task from here

excellent points 'squareleg' ... but the problem is that the middle class is really not a strong vote bank ... and even if it was then tree words - inflation, inflation, inflation ...

every single opposition is going to harp on it like there is no tomorrow... never mind that world-wide the economies are in tatters....

P.S: the edit button seems to have disappeared from the posts. any idea where to locate it?

BEST prime minister for india since independence. Cant you figure out the change in past 4 years, Infra Manufacturing and ofcourse service sector. Power is yet to emerge. Inflation is concerned but global clues are too responsible.

in my views its failure..... its the time of UPA government that reservations came, its in UPA govt.s rule that inflation went so high... terrorism increased... everywhere it faled..

UPA Govt was a failure.Inflation was still a burning problem.Terrorism was not controlled.NREGS was failure in its implementation.Farmers debt relief created a huge financial deficit.Manufacturing industry was not brought to the front. No policies were framed on this front.Even policies encouraging agriculture were not drafted.Mostly this budget sounded like a Election Budget.Needless to say about the Quota system in IIMs and other central institutes. So this Govt could have faired better but didn't do much to the "Aam Aadmi"
