It is always advisable to start as a follower and grow to take the leadership cos everyone has to grow in their life. Its is not good to remain in the same place for a long period of time. There are pros and cons in both the worlds and everyone has to experiment it.One has to take decisions and abide by the decisions. All this will come thru experience. Only experience makes a person wise in his life.

I disagree, one should always try to be leader. there is first mover advantage which is with the leader. Being proactive will safegaurd your leadership in your segment

well, if everyone will try to be a leader, then who the follower will be???
everyone cannot be a leader, one needs to have some qualities and experiences to be a leader, those come only when you experience working under a leader....

Totally agree with pahuja........ if everyone is a leader, who will he lead....... :-)
as much as a leader is required, he also needs a follower

Days r of Customisation dude. So, depending on our expertise, knowledge, experience and several factors we need to adapt.
If need be to take initiative then so be it, play to the gallery as is said in sports.
Just coz its easy to follow and always have the leader blamed for any fallout doesnt make any good.
If every1 like to lead, who will follow. And if every1 follows, who wil lead. Complete chaos..

Leader presumes follower. Follower presumes choice
The terms leader and follower imply the freedom and independent judgment of both. If the behavior of either is compelled, whether by force, economic necessity, or contractual arrangement, the relationship is altered to one of superior/subordinate, management/employee, master/servant, or owner/slave. All such relationships are materially different than leader-follower.

i feel a good follower .....i mean if a person is alert enough to understand what takes to be a successful leader goes out to become a good leader himself at some point of his life....

agree with deepak. thing is most of the poeple, in reality, are followers. For every given leader, there are 100 followers. If you are leader, you can dictate your own terms. You hold the power to change.

Everyone has unique capabilities, however untill n unless you follow a leader you will never learn how to manage. As rightly said management (man management) can never be taught, it comes with experience.
